So why is 1969-70 Spencer Haywood not more popular around here? I've played about 12 seasons now and he was the star of my only division winner, I got him with the 9th pick in the 1970s Decade League when he was actually the second best player in the league after Kareem. He got taken in their current 50s and 60s draft of course, but in regular leagues like this nobody takes him. That's why I was able to grab R. Holmes. I knew he'd be taken any time now if I didn't take him then, and then wait for Haywood, who I did not think would be taken at all.
Yeah, he's over $10M, but well worth it. eFG is a little low for a big man in this league, 49.3, but he makes his foul shots and gets there a lot. 66 defender, and a monster rebounder on both ends. Plays 45-46 minutes a game all season with just 3 TO. 5.4 assists%, and over 1.0% on both steals and blocks. 25% usage, so he doesn't completely hog the ball either. He'll average 30 or close to it, and his real life rebound average was 19.0 as he dominated the ABA at 20 years old.
Why is he ignored in most leagues?
Is it because he never had another season near this one, and people maybe don't realize how great this one was?
He's 78% on FT and gets there 8.4 times a game. That makes up for the somewhat low eFG.
