My two cent's regarding Shohei Ohtani, I have no problem If the league allows it the club that has drafted/protected him can use both his pitcher/batter seasons but they must be for identical years. Also he cannot be a starting pitcher and position player at the same time in a game. If he is in the line up as a starting pitcher he can't play a position or come off the bench as a pinch hitter/runner.Also the opposite if he is a starting position player he can not simultaneously come out the bullpen and relieve. If this not possible to control maybe it's a moot point.

You should be able to rest him as a position player when he pitches and vice versa. It certainly would be more work for the manager, and we would have to discuss whether there would be penalties for violating the rule. I also would be fine if someone rostered the same season of Ohtani as a hitter and pitcher.

Definitely possible if managed correctly and defiantly there should be penalties for any violations. Besides the novelty of it all would it really be worth it? His defence or should I say lack of it doesn't help you. Mind you if he is protected his 2022 pitching stats are among if not the best of any other qualifying Angels starter.I guess we could find out.

Also I believe if you Allow it (The Shohei Rule) he must count as two separate protect entities. You would have to burn another draft protect if your intent is to use him as both pitcher and position player.

I feel like a lot of what's being suggested is just needlessly complicated. Legislating Ohtani's use game-by-game is a lot to put on a commissioner and says nothing about if someone is just unable to log in for any period of time and Sparky just goes and breaks the rule on his own. If Ohtani counts as two protects then what would you do if he were protected after round 1? Say that you would have to protect him a second time even though nobody else could draft him?

For the record given this format I think it's easiest to just say Ohtani is rostered as either a hitter or pitcher and that's that, but better to hash all this out now.

I would agree that for this season, lets keep him as either hitter or pitcher. As for next year and beyond, I would be be curious on hearing schwarze's take on how best to do this, say starting next season? I wouldn't be opposed to allowing the 'same year' clone of Ohtani. I don't think he would need to be protected 2x, though I do believe when he pitches, he would need to be on "rest" as a batter and vice versa.

still waiting on newarks team and keepers. he hasn't opened his last 3 sitemails....

I agree with AV. Plus he will likely be the best hitting pitcher on anyone's squad and will likely be batting 3rd or 4th in the lineup.

My two cents:

As a long-time commissioner, I would NOT want the headache of monitoring daily starting lineups, regarding Ohtani. Given that constraint, there are two realistic options.

Allow only one version (hitter or pitcher) to be drafted, or protected. Once the first version is selected, the other version is no longer eligible.

Allow both versions to be drafted/protected as separate entities. They would be treated as separate players. You could play both at the same time. The Angels would have to use two protects to grab both. It would be possible for the Angels to protect the hitter and for a different team to draft the pitcher and vice versa (or even for both versions to get drafted by one or two teams).

It would be fun to see Ohtani face Ohtani.

Of those two, I think the latter would be more fun. And that’s why we play this game, right?

I mean if we're just going with what is fun what I think would be most fun is me personally getting 10 draft picks and not losing anybody so let's go with that.

my apologies for the delay. had a personal situation this past week and have not been online. I'm taking the Pirates and my keepers are in.

Everyone is in. I have a busy afternoon, so keepers may not get posted until tomorrow morning at the latest, but maybe this evening....
