I was also thinking there would be 24 Teams in this League and was in no hurry to Enter only because I have 20 Active Teams and others with Drafts now and upcoming ... ?I would do a 24 Team League so next time for me and Sorry

I vaguely remember asking Admin if i could change the number of Teams in a League without having a new MLB number but do not remember what they said
20 active teams? That's insane. See you next time maybe.

To the guys who prefer a 24 team league because there's a better chance to make the playoffs, remember this. Your ultimate goal is to win a championship, and there's twice as much chance to win a championship in a 12 team league than there is in a 24 team league.

Yes it is too many and I was thinking of this starting 2 weeks from now so some Active Teams would drop off ... So how much time I have is also a reason.

Taft has put his team on the league page. I will verify his roster this afternoon, have to do some food shopping first.

Taft, your roster is confirmed.

Team entered. Very grateful I drew the 1936 Yankees. Could not get the pitching staff over 40 million, but was able to squeak out a solid 60 million from the hitters.

Yeah Liebhardt was the cheapest Brown. I almost picked Harland Clift who had a great year at third. But Rolfe's 1936 was a bit better. I was pleased to find Sauer instead of just punting on a 500K guy. Walczak's presence made me so happy I named the team after him and the team's nickname that year which Philadelphia hated.

I'm not even sure I would have taken Dimaggio anyway. His defense wasn't any better than Salmon's, and he had a pretty low OBP and I didn't pick a HR park.

Joe was more a doubles and triples guy in 1936 than home runs. His lowly 24 walks in 688 PA kept his OBP down. He also played mainly LF in 1936, although that's another thing about this sim that I don't like, that they just lump all OFers together without separate ratings for LF, CF and RF. I like your team name, I laughed out loud when I first saw it.

36 Clift's salary is higher than 36 Rolfe's salary, and I agree with that. Higher OPS, .938 to .885 and he has 64 more PA, so he won't ever get fatigued, although Rolfe shouldn't get fatigued much either, maybe go to 99 a few times if you bat him first or second. Rolfe is a better fielder though at B/A to B-/B for Clift. It's a close call, I'm not sure how much the fielding matters in this game, although the error rate sure does. I tried a team once with all A+ fielders and it did not help my pitchers much at all. Fielding means much more in DMB. I tried experiments and a great fielding team of great hitting but D- type fielders. I don't think that would happen here, as long as you didn't play guys at positions they did not actually play.

Fielding definittely matters, though yeah not to the extent of DMB for sure.

I enjoy WhatIf almost entirely for team building. It's like a fun math puzzle for me. But DMB is the way to go for realistic results and fantastic play by play commentary. I began playing both in 2001, oddly enough.

I never actually play the DMB game batter by batter. But I do see the play by play after the game if I want to. They have lots of stuff that can't occur in this sim, like a throw home gets cut off and the batter is thrown out at second, or even brawls once in a while where a guy who was not even in the game gets injured for 20 games or something.

I just use it to run quick full seasons or tournaments. Like I have put together 128 of the greatest multi year teams (like the 1926-28 Yankees, the 1936-39 Yankees, the 1969-71 Orioles, the 1906-08 Cubs, etc...). I seed the teams and then run a tournament like NCAA basketball. Each matchup is 162 games head to head between 2 teams. Usually the 1929 Yankees win the tournament, but a few other teams have won once or twice each. The 1926-28 Yankees, the 1949-53 Yankees, the 1996-01 Yankees, the 1942-46 Cardinals),

I used the DMB Greatest All Time Players discs, so there are no individual seasons. Those discs use the player's best 5 consecutive seasons, adjusted for era. On real short career guys they use their career numbers rather than the best 5 seasons. T

Here is one of my tournaments, starts about 1/3 of the way down the page. At this time I had 124 teams, so 4 teams got a bye to round 2. I have since added 4 more teams to get to 128.

I have also been the commissioner and ran the games for a bunch of theme draft leagues, like decades , or only players eligible were guys who played for the Astros at some time, or a WW2 league, only players eligible had to have played in either 1943, 1944, or 1945. DMB has a draft function that's really good for running drafts.

Cool. I do stuff like this with Second and Ten
I also have teams by the state or other country that a player was born in, some smaller states had to be combined to field a team. The best team is California with Barry and Bobby Bonds, Gwynn, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, McGwire, Joe Gordon, Randy Johnson, Tom Seaver and others. Texas, New York and Pennsylvania are also really good. The Dominican Republic is very good, and so is Puerto Rico and Cuba.

Then I have all time teams for the 24 franchises that existed in the early 1970s. The Yankees and Giants are the top 2 teams. The Yankees have Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, Gehrig, Dickey and Berra, Gordon, Jeter and Rizzuto and A-Rod and Nettles.

Then I have teams based on decades for each league starting with the 1870s NL and NA, and including one for the American Association in the 1880s. The best team is the AL 1910s with Cobb, Speaker, Joe Jackson, Walter Johnson, Home Run Baker, Eddie Collins and some others.
