Change in how credits are used to purchase teams Topic

Why do I get the feeling this will have a negative effect on WIS championship participation this year? The prizes are credits, after all.

I think that WISC will be a canary in the coalmine as to the long-term viability of the game.

Out of curiosity, has anyone used:

• Interactive, animated play-by-play with Live GameTracker

I myself cannot, as the app is Apple-only and I (along with 40% of the population) have an Android phone. But if this is well-done, this might be something that would encourage me to spend money on this site going forward, assuming that eventually the app is available for Android, which judging by the response I received to a recent ticket will not happen in the immediate future. But I've always wanted a feature like this, assuming it's done well.

It is one of the better features in the app and is quite fun to watch your games unfold this way.

i always read the non-boxescore play-by-play through he mygames link, and this is the only feature so far that I would go to the app for. Otherwise, everything else i do on the site is still better served through the browser.

team logos are fun, player pics are a nice feature, but neither are enough to get me on app instead of in browser.

Teams don’t expire in the draft center, and credits don’t buy you anything else. So I just cashed mine in and added 12 more teams to my draft center. It’s my WISC zone, basically. I’m sure it will be frustrating in the future when I accumulate more, but there’s no harm in doing it now with what you have.
Just now seeing this. Ditto. I haven't paid for a team in many years.... Don't plan on starting now.

I sure hope Admin is reading this thread, because some of the best theme creators and drivers of competition are talking about what should be unthinkable.

schwarze, I know you create a lot of leagues, tournaments and such..... I am sure you also receive a lot of credits due to reaching playoffs and winning leagues. If you haven't paid for a team in many years then it is safe to say you are on the plus side of the equation, and without calculating the increase in revenue that you generate for WIS by creating leagues, it appears on the surface that you are costing them money because you are not paying. What they have failed to do by implementing this policy as it is, is differentiate between the league creators that generate business for them and those that never pay because they win a lot of Leagues, TOC's, Tournaments. A much simpler, reasonable, and probably less damaging solution, would have been to just lessen the "Awards received for winning" instead of telling us how we can use our credits.

I too, am waiting for a league wide announcement explaining this decision. I do not use my phone for this site, unless it is an emergency, so the app means nothing to me. I'd be much more interested in an actual simbaseball update, which appears with every passing year, we are likely NEVER to get.

The site has put themselves in a very difficult position by allowing owners to play for free for so long, I would guess this is only something that affects Sim Baseball as I don't believe other sports have the TOC, which is the main driver of all the extra credits.

Like I said earlier, if they invest in site upgrades and new features then this will be a very smart business decision, if not Sim Baseball is in big trouble.

Admin has thrown in money for tournament prizes for years, a clear acknowledgment that theme creators generating significant interest create profits. I’m sure schwarze, thejuice6 and others have been some of the biggest drivers of revenue by running so many leagues and building owner enthusiasm. I mean, it’s the work of great theme and tournament creators that hooked me on this game, and I’m sure many more like me who have spent plenty of money here.

Isn't there a link somewhere that shows how many theme leagues people have created? I have to believe I'm in the top 5. If people like me or thejuice6 stop creating/running these multi-league, multi-round tournaments, that will significantly reduce the number of people buying teams.

I often play 10, 15 or even 20 teams at a time (during these tournaments). I only do this because I have a ton of credits. I would certainly cut down on this if I was going to pay for 50% of these teams. I also have over 130,000 reward points that I haven't converted.

Speaking of tournament prizes, I logged a ticket with Admin to send me back the gift certificate (bought with credits) that I donated to the Ozomatli tourney because the payouts will come after March 24th, at half their value than when we all contributed to it.

To me, that's soliciting under false pretenses. We donated without knowledge that the value of the credits would be diminished before the payout.

Admin claimed it was impossible to send the credits back to me, which is obviously just a lie. These all are make believe credits - they literally come out of thin air and are just numbers on a screen. It's not like there's a gold standard we're following here.

Then to make it interesting, Bob jumped into the ticket and repeated that the credits can't be returned (sure, Bob...) but did say this
We’re also adding an exception, so GCs can be used above the normal 50% credit cap (we'll announce before the policy goes into place) specifically so situations like this continue to work the way people expect.

So that's actually a nice backpedal. You can still use your credits to send a gift certificate to yourself and use that to pay for the full cost of the leagues. Couple more clicks but end result is the same. Not sure why there hasn't been an announcement of yet, but there it is in black and white.
3/19/2026 4:14 PM
Well, not exactly. He just said "...so GC's can be used above the normal 50% credit cap"

Unless the "above the normal 50%" turns out to be 100% Credits are OK for a GC Purchase then it's NOT a backpedal or a fix.

More like another attempt to soften an unpopular new policy.........
3/19/2026 4:28 PM
Fair enough. I don't speak corporate speak. If this is anything other than "you can use a gift certificate for 100% of the purchase price", I would consider it disingenuous and sleazy.
3/19/2026 4:56 PM
Reckon so.
