That's what I thought. So that's the decision I'm trying to make: keep my team pretty much as is, or dump a couple of players to get someone new and add a couple injury 4th liners later.
better off trading than dumping. dumping you will have to pay off the contract and get no return
I've got all 9s. The only reason I make money anymore is to dump/pay signing bonuses.
That last sentence is yet another argument for keeping the cap. Those of you making money hand over fist have the funds to buy out bad contracts when you see an opportunity for a roster upgrade.
Add that to the ability to re-sign your own players free of the cap, adding one player every year through the draft, and trading, and I see no reason any team should end up with their hands tied.
I do like the suggestion of turning it off once everyone is at all 9s with upgrades. I think by that point there is no danger of anyone being a sitting duck in what would surely be a wild west scenario.
Of course, that would also make it impossible for eventual new teams to ever be on par with the old-timers. So maybe I only turn the cap off once I get everyone to sign a collective bargaining agreement that ensures me 20 ACTIVE human-run teams for a minimum of 6 consecutive seasons.
