I don't know if it's fair to generalize guys like that. California QB's used to be known as guys that couldn't succeed in the NFL, and it looks like that worked out alright.

LB Jeremy Thompson has apparently been advised by medical experts that he should not play any more with his neck injury and the Packers have released him. It is expected that Thompson will retire.

Sources indicate that the player is second-year CB Brandon Underwood, who was largely considered to be an immature idiot to begin with. I'd have to say it's no big loss if he is jailed or suspended.

Meanwhile, Johnny Jolly's trial has been delayed (again) and is now scheduled for the first day of training camp, July 30. At last word Jolly still has not signed his $2.5M tender offer from the team. Which seems crazy. Who's going to give him a better deal than that with this trial hanging over his head?

The NFL has suspended Johnny Jolly indefinitely, and he will not play during the 2010 season. Eligible to apply for reinstatement after the Super Bowl. No real details available at the moment, but the general impression appears to be that this is not directly related to the codeine charges (for which he has not yet faced trial).

Packers lose to Cleveland on a last-second FG by Phil Dawson. Rodgers looked great, the defense not so much, and special teams not so special.

The first-team offense once again looked good while the first-team defense was scarcely recognizable with all the injuries and precautionary holdouts, but the Packers came back in the fourth to beat Seattle 27-24 and even their exhibition record at 1-1.

With final cutdown to 53-man roster tomorrow, there's talk the Packers will keep all three fullbacks again and possibly only two halfbacks. They used John Kuhn as a halfback in the final exhibition game and may be comfortable using him as the third halfback if necessary. Some still think they may keep all five tight ends, which would obviously be insane.

Breno Giacomini may have destroyed any trade value he had with his performance last night, though there are some rumors that an NFC team may offer a 6th/7th round choice for him. He's likely to end up out on the street, though.
