thanks for the notes about edmintson. Threw a little early at him, but expected you to jump in (I think I'd have rather had the SF FWIW). Even such, I thought I was going to have to go all in on the PF, so I thought he was bound for SJU. Thankfully the PF signed before the Edmintson, so I was able to unload about 30k on him in 1 cycle and he signed the next. Definently looking forward to his potential. G/l this season CB.

Good luck this season, taz...both with Texas and Georgetown...but more with Texas than Georgetown.

I am not looking forward to next year's recruiting. Georgetown is going to have 6 or 7 open schollies and a load of money to go with that. I am ostensibly targeting a local, very highly ranked PF who I know for a fact taz will want. I will have between 2 and 4 open schollies (I figure Lyons and Jaco could leave early; Hargraves conceivably could, but I doubt it). My best bet is for Georgetown to overextend on too many high tier guys and wind up being in a battle with him which he doesn't prioritize, but I think that's pretty unlikely.

I will definitely need another PG next year but there are no stunning ones in the local scene.

Exhibition 1: we blow out preseason 15th ranked Washington. If Bold had not played much, I might have tried again to convince him to take the redshirt, but it doesn't really matter because he's a likely early entry, anyways.

Hey coach, you asked me to give you my thoughts on how everyone looked after the offseason and I think I've seen enough to do that. I only jotted down things that stood out to me...

Jack Avalos:
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
perimeter shooting: big upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[as a JuCo player, Avalos still has plenty of areas for possible improvement, but I'll kick a few extra minutes to perimeter]

Jason basinger:
athleticism: big upside
passing: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: big upside
[I wonder just how limited that upside is for passing - I think he can still go up a good 3 points]

Ernest bold:
low post moves: big upside
passing: big upside
perimeter shooting: big upside
shot blocking: limited upside
ft shooting: big upside

brice Diehl:
ball handling: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: big upside
[Nice to see that he still has upside in stamina, and it looks like his position skills will top out around 99, since they're not listed as being limited yet]

Roger Forbush:
low post moves: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
[Forbush looks like he'll get into good shape with his ratings before too long. It turns out that he transferred from Syracuse because he'd been promised 15 minutes and in the postseason, he sat on the bench - he'll have an adjustment period with me as he learns the Flex, but I'm comfortable with him being on the floor as a complementary piece]

brent Grady:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[I don't even have to look through that to know he's got to be topped out, which isn't a problem because he's a monster at this point]

Millard Hargraves:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
durability: limited upside
passing: limited upside
speed: limited upside
[interesting...he's still got room to grow in stamina and perimeter shooting, defense and maybe rebounding

brian Hill:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[I'll throw a few minutes towards low post, but I can't really complain about Brian Hill...he didn't go through the roof but he's a worthwhile contributor to the team]

bobby Jaco:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[I guess for kicks I'll practice low post with him, but he's essentially topped out]

Nolan Lyons:
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
speed: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[still plenty of areas for growth, even as a junior; hopefully he stays on another year with us]

John McMahon:
athleticism: big upside
defensive fundamentals: big upside
durability: big upside
shot blocking: big upside
stamina: big upside

Derek Phillips:
ball handling: big upside
defensive fundamentals: big upside
durability: big upside
passing: big upside
rebounding: big upside
shot blocking: big upside

Anyway, maybe some guidelines for practice time? If I notice anything else, I'll let you know.

- Nicholas

Phillips and Forbush both got injured here, but not severely. I might sit Phillips for a game or two. Forbush is at 82% and we need him more than Phillips, who is at 70%.

Jaco could stand to hit more of his shots than he did here, but we had a nice game overall, with good defense and non-3-point offense. For some reason we don't seem to draw a lot of fouls this year.

Lyons seems to be coming into his own, finally. I'm hoping that he sticks around another year.

This is a nice enough win, but I suspect that the Terps' RPI won't be great, since right now 3 out of my first 10 opponents have 0-6 records (Pacific, Princeton and Wyoming, who is probably playing the #1 SOS and will eventually turn it around).
