What's the over/under for NCAA recruiting violations before USC regrets hiring Lane Kiffen as their new head football coach?

Why is everyone all over Lane Kiffin about going to USC? Tenn was obviously not a destination job for him and he had an out clause in his contract there if he was ever offered the USC job.

Uh, I'm pretty sure USC already has some recruiting violations to worry about. Kiffin is a smart guy. I think his bravado(and violations) in Tennessee was designed to put himself and TN back on the map. My guess is he tones it down a bit with USC's current issues. I also think he knew that winning in the SEC is a lot tougher than winning in the PAC10 at USC.

Because he made a big show about being in TN. I think, more than anything, TN is a respected program that was falling behind. A lot of coaches would kill their mother to coach at TN. Kiffin used it as a stepping stone. FWIW, when the first few coaches turned down USC, I kept thinking "I wonder if Kiffin is on their list?" He doesn't have a very good track record as a head coach but he's very much like a younger Carroll with his exuberance.

Hey Meat, What'd you eat for dinner last night?
1/13/2010 8:47 AM
Handful of crackers and cheese. Had a "viewing" for a funeral so I skipped dinner. Viewings, by the way, are one of my least favorite things to attend. I don't look at the body. People always say "Doesn't he/she look good?" if you're near the casket. They don't. They look like dead people that the funeral director(or whoever) attempted to make look less dead. It's creepy and I don't want to be the one to say "No, they most certainly do not look good." I also hate hospitals. They're full of sick people. Most of whom just want to rest but feel obligated to talk to you because you visited.

so your not into necrophilia then?
1/13/2010 10:05 AM
No, it's not one of my hobbies.

Does Kiffin have to be a great coach if he has his dad running the D, Norm Chow running the O and Ed Orgeron helping with recruiting?

Seems to me he just has to keep up the level of excitement and go recruit which he is excellent at.

Hey Meat, sorry ya had to go to the viewing, those things are pretty morbid, but what will you eat for dinner tonight?
1/13/2010 11:17 AM
7-6 won't cut it at USC. Even in a down year. He only got away with it in TN because of close games with FL/AL.

Chicken. If I cook it, it will be baked. If the wife cooks, I don't know.

Back to HBD:

Which of the following do you get more satisfaction out of: (a) having to work really hard with mid-season trades and managing your pitching rotation and lineups to scratch out wins to earn a playoff spot with a team that you had your doubts about; or (b) winning your division in a cakewalk, basically running the team on auto-pilot for a majority of the season? Take possible posteseason success out of consideration when giving your answer.

A) If you check my history, you'll see I've only dropped teams that finished in first place(with the exception of HJ which was a WC team, coming off a handful of division titles, that won my 2nd WS in that world). I get bored.

Do you feel that in HBD, more than GD or HD, there is an almost feeling of "breaking up a relationship" when you leave a team?
1/13/2010 12:47 PM
So we are all curious, what is your serious pig out food?
1/13/2010 12:52 PM
I usually check my old HBD team once a week for about half a season before I become detached. And then I check at the end of the season to see how they finished. And, every now and then, I'll check again to see how the 'tards destroyed what I built. So, yeah, I make the occasional booty call on the ol' girlfriend.

I can sit at a bar, drink beer and eat chicken wings for hours.
