I am wondering though any word or idea on the implementation timeline from the initial season protects from 15 to eventual 18 ? I'd suggest gradually say from 15 then 16 then 17 then 18, rather than all at once.
I am not sure i understand this.. the rule reads you cannot release more than ten...indicating you could keep 23..You will always have to bring in a new player to play the 1st season of your 25 yr period...could draft this slot new or trade for one who will be going past the last year of another owner.
I should've clarified the 1st season MINIMUM protect is 15, meaning MAX drop of 10, eventually becoming a MAX drop of 7 with MINIMUM protect of 18.

Being new and wanting to play safe with sufficient playing time, I have many 1 - 1 1/2 year wonders for Season1, but probly not enough mileage going into Season2 to drop from minimum 15 protects to minimum 18 protects all at once.
Gonna be at least 2 seasons before we look at that. 1st, to see how things play out, maybe people like having some one year wonders.

2, maybe it's needed.

That one will go for a vote before we get there. There will be pleanty of notice when/if it happens.

This is going to be irrelevant next year, since no new players are going to be added to the draft pool. Whoever is not drafted this year will be drafted next. In year 3, all the 1-year wonders from this draft will be thrown back to get redrafted. Only then is a limit on how many players you cut going to matter.
Apologeeze again cuz I'm new, If I'm missing something I'll try to catch up. But how is this not relevant ? :

Imagine 5 platoons and 5 shorter than full-time arms, trying to get lower playing time but presumably better rates combined out of multiple players than fewer full-time ones. Throw those back and rinse repeat the following season with our current 10 MAX drops. Then a season comes along announced now only 7 MAX drops. So, 10-7 equals 3 spots that would have to kept presumably worse than the 1-year you had it lined up for. Commish promised an ease into it transition but this or similar scenario is at some point going to happen and has to be accounted for by each of us, yes ?
Anyone who wants to cut more than 10 players after season 1 will find the draft pool pretty shallow. That was my first point. The second point is that, once we get past this next draft period, we will see just how shallow the pool is, and we will be in a better place to discuss if and when we should lower the number of cuts allowed in future seasons. I agree that if next season we agree to lower the number of cuts, it should not go in effect until season 4, because we will be drafting for season 2 on the premise that we can cut 10 of four players before season 3.
One owner of 24’s opinion here but we all signed up for this league with rules as stated. Why not play the league for a few seasons before trying to changed it up?

tedcogswell already drafted Jamie Moyer for 1997, so he will have to change this.

Unless a team has several one year wonders back to back not an issue. Because an owner will not be able to re-select a drafted, 1968 Pat Jarvis, for example, because that slot will be filled with your 1966 pick when the Jarvis type becomes eligible again. The same with any one year wonder an owner selects for the last season of his 25. That player will have a player in that slot from two season's earlier.

For me for example, navigating for future use of the same wonder or planning 2 years out to swoop on someone else's is not a thing. I'm not that smart. It's only about having proper opp ahead of time to plan on what to do in '69 after Jarvis'68 and on track to lose a drop slot; either Jarvis better have a decent follow-up '69 or I drop him and keep someone else's next year.

I never asked to change a rule, just asked a simple how-does-this-work-fairly newb question, and don't appreciate otherwise being hinted at in my thread, specially when others have specifically asked for ban on wonders and gee look at that I pick last so now stadium choice availability is suddenly an issue, which I actually chimed in with it seems fine the way it is.
Everything's good, mwett. We're all just expressing our thoughts here. I think bottomlee showed foresight in wanting to wait until the league gets going before deciding on when to further limit cuts and how may to limit them to. We all have ideas as to how this is going to look, and only when we get a season or two in will we really know if there is a loophole in the system. Keep posting your ideas, even if it involves changing rules. This is why we have the thread and this is how we improve our game.

FYI. Jarvis was next on my list when he got taken....he would have been my only 1 year guy besides my 78 which is my last season. That is why I used Jarvis as an example

It happens to EVERY league - there are guys who hate one-year wonders, and there are guys who love one-year wonders.
We all signed up for this league knowing the drafting possibilities - why do we now have guys who want to change features that we all knew existed ?
Even if we drop the max draft picks from 10 down to 7, the one-year wonders will still be in use, so WHY drop it down ? It is not an advantage for anyone - we all have the same chance to either draft them or not draft them.

I've avoided them except for players from the last few years of my timeline. Finally grabbed my first with '96 Brady Anderson a couple of rounds ago. He'll be my starting CF in season one, then just a backup outfielder for the next few years.
