PACKERS: Datone Jones is latest DL bust drafted Topic

The thing I keep hearing about Jackson from the local media guys is that he is missing 2-4 cuts per game... he lacks the proper vision to see where the lane is. Maybe that improves with playing time, but in the end I'm not sure the Packers even attempt to run enough times for him to show much improvement.

In theory they will want to run more as the weather turns bad... rookie James Starks is currently on the PUP list but he really hasn't faced much contact since 2008 so I don't see him as any savior either.

In other news, rookie safety Morgan Burnett, starting in the absence of Atari Bigby (also on the PUP list), is out for the season with a knee injury.

Ted, apparently unwilling to sacrifice a precious draft pick, sits on his hands while Seattle trades for Marshawn Lynch.

Seems that Nick Barnett may need season-ending surgery on his wrist. Sweet.

Looking like Tauscher will not play this week either. 1st round bust Bryan Bulaga likely to get the start at RT.

The Packer offense, stalled since halftime of the game against Detroit last week, continued to struggle in DC today, putting only one touchdown and 13 points on the board. After missing a 50+ yard field goal with time running out that would have won it, Green Bay won the coin toss in overtime but did nothing and punted. The Defense held, forcing a Redskin punt. The Packers proceeded to run two ineffective plays followed by an interception. Apparently Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion on that last play, which put the Redskins in fine field position. They did not waste it, moving close enough to make the field goal try all but a foregone conclusion. Packers lose, 16-13.

Amongst the injuries suffered by the Packers today were DL Ryan Pickett, LB Clay Mathews, TE Donald Lee and TE Jermichael Finley. No immediate word on the severity of any of them.

Finley will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, will be out 3-6 weeks.

Nick Barnett has elected to have surgery on his wrist. They say there is a possibility he could be back in eight weeks but it seems unlikely the Packers will hold a roster spot for him that long given their injury situation.

Doctors originally thought they would remove Finley's meniscus but discovered they could repair it instead, which lengthens his recovery time from 3-6 weeks to 8-10 weeks. Unclear if the team will hold his roster spot that long or put him on IR.

Packers ride another near-incompetent offensive performance to an overtime loss, this one 23-20 at home against Miami. The defense did little to stop Brandon Marshall in the first half but at least kept the Dolphins score in a reasonable range.

ARodg started one week after suffering a concussion and scored on a game-tying fourth-and-goal sneak from the one late in the fourth. Could not move the ball in OT, however, and another subpar punt by Tim Masthay gave teh Fins the ball at midfield, setting up a game-winning 45-yard field goal.

This evening comes word that the Packers have traded for former Packer Anthony Smith, currently a safety with Jacksonville. Smith was one of the last cuts of training camp in 2009, having come from Pittsburgh and with experience in the 3-4 defense. Smith was cut in favor of Thompson draft pick Aaron Rouse, who is no longer with the team. Have not heard what we traded away for him. While Atari Bigby is eligible to come off the PUP list this week, it appears that he is still a few weeks away from being ready to play.

Frustrating season so far. The good news is, I don't think there's any elite teams in the NFC, and the Packers are still legitimate contenders for the NFC North. The bad news is, how is this team going to score with no running game, no Finley, Rodgers not looking as sharp as last year, and a defense that is torn to shreds by injuries?

Smith acquired for a 7th-round conditional pick in '11.

Hard to believe, but Masthay's punting numbers this year, before it has even been cold outside, are worse right now than Kapinos' full-season numbers last season.

Good thing we solved the punting problem!

Aaron Rodgers is now 1-11 in his career in games decided by four points of fewer.

The only win was the 28-26 squeaker over Detroit a few weeks ago.

Not even the least bit.

Packers beat Favre 28-24, largely thanks to pick-six from #4 to Desmond Bishop.

Favre looked old, and like he was completely out of his element a few times last night.

Had a look on his face that was almost scared.
