I cant see how there will be enough 1984 innings to go around, some people are banking on a future that they don't have. On the other hand, I can't see how I can survive with my roster but if I can at least win a world series before I go I will take it!
while anything can happen, if you win a world series early, you probably will survive until at least year 4, since its based on cumulative record and you get those bonus wins added in...and yes, pitching is/will be tight in season 1 and 2 (not as much), but all you have to do is be better than 2 owners to survive (4 owners after season 2).
What worries me is that I won't have enough players to fill out a roster by 1987,1988. Most of the players I've drafted will be retired by then and with only one pick in the contraction draft I'm not sure I will be able to fill out my roster with enough AB's and IPs from the rookie draft.

I have a few extra seasons paid for and I used them to draft up some rosters from this draft and haven't seen a team as stacked as mine in 84, and I should still be strong in 85, so that will give me two good players from the contraction draft. Hopefully there will be an abundance of rookies because as of right now I don't have a single starting pitcher that will still be around/effective in 1987.

All that said, if I can win the World Series in 84 or 85, the rest will just be a bonus.

The strategy discussions here are interesting....my plan had been to be just good enough to survive each season but I forgot about the benefits of picking first in the contraction draft.  I think that's gonna cost me.
