Game 76: Bill Madlock and Larry Biittner have three hits each and Bruce Kison tosses 5.2 scoreless innings, bouncing back from a four-gopher ball outing against Cleveland last time out, as the Riders beat the Goats 4-2.

Game 77: Tommy John throws eight scoreless innings; Rich Gossage tries hard to give up the 3-0 lead John him with, but Sammy Stewart comes in to get the last out and give the Riders a 3-2 win.

Game 78: It's been a while since the Riders gave up 15+ in a game, but old times returned as the Goats pummel Milwaukee 18-3. The score is somewhat misleading as the game remained within reach through eight, but Chicago put 13 runs up in the top of the ninth.

The first half ends with a visit from Philadelphia.

Game 79: Lary Sorensen throws seven strong innings and the Riders eventually get to a tired Philly bullpen to win the opener, 6-1. Sorensen improves to 6-9.

Game 80: Five Philly pitchers limit the Riders to six hits and the Athletics even the series with a 3-2 win.

Game 81: The lowly Athletics take the series from Milwaukee; two Rider errors lead to four unearned runs and Philly wins 7-4.

Tommy John is the only Rider to make the AL All Star Team; the second half begins at home with a visit from the Mooseheads.

Game 82: Minnesota does most of its damage in the later innings, breaking open a close game to win 10-3.

Game 83: Timely hitting finally returns to Milwaukee and the Riders beat Minnesota 12-5 despite matching them in the hit column with 13. Lary Sorensen goes six for the win; Willie Aikens hits his 17th home run.

Game 84: Rich Gossage allows two in the ninth to blow his third save of the season, but the Riders win in the 11th on Richie Hebner's RBI single to take the series from Minnesota. Final score: 8-7.

The Mammoths are in town next.

Game 85: Denny Walling homers and Thurman Munson drives in five runs as the Riders enjoy a rare blowout victory, beating the Mammoths 15-3. Tommy John allows only two unearned runs in seven innings to get his 10th win.

Game 86: Rick Sutcliffe has his best outing of the year, pitching eight innings and leaving with a 4-2 lead, but Rich Gossage suffers his fourth blown save as the Mammoths tie the score in the ninth. Three walks in the bottom half load the bases for Jeffrey Leonard, who singles to center to bring home the winner.

Game 87: More late inning excitement in Milwaukee as both teams score a run in the ninth, leaving the game tied at nine. In the 10th, New York is held scoreless while Jerry Mumphrey singles to lead off for the Riders. Frank Taveras grounds out to advance him to second, and he race home ahead of Bucky Dent's relay on Ted Sizemore's single. Milwaukee comes through with a 10-9 win to sweep the Mammoths.

The homestand concludes with a visit from Washington.

Game 88: The Riders come up with their third straight one-run victory, getting five shutout innings from the bullpen (three from winner Sammy Stewart) to beat the Commandos 3-2.

Game 89: Milwaukee has another bullpen meltdown as Ron Reed allows three runs in the eighth inning, tying the game at nine, but the Riders come through with a run in the ninth to win, 10-9. Bill Madlock drives home Frank Taveras with the winner.

Game 90: Make it five straight one-run wins for Milwaukee as they rally for two in the ninth to beat the Commandos 4-3. Jerry Mumphrey and Frank Taveras hit RBI singles off new reliever Tim Stoddard to steal the game away.

The Riders start a road trip in Atlanta next.

Game 91: The magic runs out as Larry Parrish hits a grand slam off Ron Reed in the seventh inning and the Force crush the Riders 8-3. Lary Sorensen takes his 10th loss of the season. Bill Madlock strands eight runners.

Game 92: Dan Schatzeder pitches eight shutout innings as Georgia Force romps over Milwaukee, 13-1.

Game 93: Milwaukee puts up a game effort but without any clutch hits as they are swept by Atlanta, losing the finale 3-2. Tommy John falls to 10-10. Milwaukee's stay at .500 is short-lived as they fall to 45-48.

The road trip continues with a trip to Montreal, who is one game behind the Riders in the standings.

Game 94: Milwaukee gets 11 hits, including three doubles by Richie Hebner, but a disastrous outing by Elias Sosa helps the Lynchers score four late runs to beat the Riders 8-4.

Game 95: Montreal gets a grand slam from Frank White and a three-run homer from Gary Roenicke and prevails in a back-and-forth battle, 10-8.

Game 96: Bruce Kison pitches four scoreless innings and the bullpen does enough to hold on for a 7-3 win. Thurman Munson doubles and drives in three runs.

The Riders head home to face AL co-leaders Cleveland and Anaheim.

Game 97: Milwaukee gets three scoreless innings from the bullpen and they manage to score three times off JR Richard, knocking off the Saltdogs 3-2 to open the series. Tommy John gets the win, improving to 11-10.

Game 98: A close game turns into a near-laugher when Cleveland's Bobby Grich hits a grand slam in the ninth; Saltdogs win 9-4 and Pete Vuckovich improves to 17-2 on the season.

Game 99: Cleveland scores twice in the first and the Riders never catch up, losing the series finale 3-2.

Anaheim is in town next; they now lead Cleveland by a game at 75-24.

Game 100: Sixto Lezcano hits three of the Angels' eight home runs as the Riders are pummelled 22-6 in the series opener.

Game 101: Tommy John has a quality start (barely, allowing 13 hits in six innings) and the bullpen shuts down the Angels over the final three as the Riders bounce back with a 4-3 win. Bill Madlock is 3-3 with a home run.

Game 102: Rider pitchers issue ten walks, seven by starter Rick Sutcliffe, and the Angels take the series with a 10-6 win.

Milwaukee heads to Wrigley to face the Goats, currently five games behind us at 43-59.

Game 103: Lary Sorensen pitches seven 3-hit innings and the Riders shut out the Goats, 9-0, hitting three home runs in the process. Jeffrey Leonard and Thurman Munson drive in three runs each.

Game 104: The Goats even the series as Silvio Martinez and John Montague combine to shut out the Riders 4-0. Bruce Kison loses, dropping to 4-12 on the season.

Game 105: Frank Taveras has five hits, Ted Sizemore drives in five runs, and Tommy John wins his 13th game as the Riders blow out the Goats 13-4 to take the series. Bill Madlock adds four hits and Jeffrey Leonard scores three times.

The road trip continues with a series in Philadelphia.

Game 106: The Riders rally for five runs in the ninth inning and then hold on in the bottom half for a 10-8 win. Larry Biittner delivers a key pinch hit triple. Rich Gossage gets his 20th save.

Game 107: Philadelphia pounds out 18 hits, including two homers by Steve Kemp, and the Athletics pound the Riders 9-3.

Game 108: Milwaukee gets three hits each from Bill Madlock, Richie Hebner, and Hal McRae and beats the Athletics 8-4 to win the series. Sammy Stewart gets the win in relief, his 10th win of the season.

The Riders head to Minneapolis to take on the Mooseheads.

Game 109: Rich Gossage's forgettable season continues as he blows a 4-2 lead in the ninth, allowing a three-run homer to Ruppert Jones that gives Minnesota a 5-4 win. It's Gossage's fifth blown save of the season and his ERA is 6.75. Frank Taveras has four hits for Milwaukee and Thurman Munson hits his third home run.

Game 110: Larry Biittner returns to the starting lineup with a four-hit game, Rick Sutcliffe pitches eight shutout innings, and Hal McRae hits three doubles as the Riders even the series with a 6-1 win.

Game 111: Larry Biittner and Mike Ivie both hit home runs and Lary Sorensen limits Minnesota to one run over seven innings to earn his ninth victory as the Riders win 6-2.

The road trip heads east as Milwaukee will take on the New York Mammoths next.

Game 112: Bill Madlock has five hits and Jerry Mumphrey hits his first home run of the season as the Riders take the opener at Yankee Stadium, 10-3. Bruce Kison gets the win, only his fifth of the season.

Game 113: The Riders scratch out a 2-1 victory behind Tommy John and Rich Gossage.. the only Mammoth run is unearned.

Game 114: Less drama in the finale as the Riders score six in the fifth to extend a 6-1 lead and win 14-4. Hal McRae has four hits; he and Frank Taveras drive in three each.

Milwaukee will finish the road trip with a visit to our nation's Capitol.
