After losses by Tampa Bay and the Giants earlier in the day put the Packers in control of their own playoff destiny, they proved not quite ready for prime time, losing to the Patriots 31-27. Their final drive went awry when QB Matt Flynn took a big sack on first down. After two plays put them within a yard or two of a first, but with less than 30 seconds left and no timeouts, the offense stood around looking at each other for nearly all of that time before finally getting a snap off with five ticks left. Flynn then took another sack and fumbled.
The Packers' chances took a big hit at the end of the first half when, after scoring a TD to take a 17-7 lead, they allowed a 71-yard kickoff return to an O-lineman, which essentially gave the Pats a free touchdown before the whistle blew. Horrible, horrible horrible. The offense showed they can't tackle either, allowing a pick-6 in which approximately 8 offensive players missed a tackle.
Pathetic.
