Rodgers now 2-12 in games decided by four or less. McCarthy not much better. Hard to see how the Packers are going to win bad-weather games in December when they can't even pretend to try running the ball.
in a dome no less!

Aaron Rodgers continues to hold a grudge against Frisco for taking Alex Smith ahead of him in the '05 draft. He throws for four TDs in a 31-16 beatdown of the Niners.

Packers wore 1929-vintage throwback unis. I don't usually like the Packer throwbacks, but I was ok with these. Only the second time they've worn throwbacks at home.

Already out of a playoff spot at 8-4, Packers go to Detroit and lay a huge egg, scoring only three points and losing to the Lions 7-3. McCarthy's first loss to Detroit. Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion in the first half and the offense was entrusted to Matt Flynn in the second half; neither QB had any luck finding the end zone. Pathetic performance, and McCarthy's decision at the end to throw a long pass to the end zone on 4th-and-one was bizarre to say the least.

First division win for Lions since Oct. 2007. FANtastic.

I could not figure out why, with 2 timeouts left on 4th and 1, McCarthy would decide to go deep on that last play.  If it were 3rd and 1, maybe the element of surprise would have paid off.  If it didn't they'd have still had 4th down.  But on 4th down, it was a dumb decision.

Glad to know Lovie isn't the only coach in the North to do such dumb things.

And with Flynn quarterbacking, no less. Rodgers is usually accurate on those deep balls (still a bad call, IMO, even if Rodgers was still in), but with a backup QB getting his first extensive real playing time...a dumb dumb call. Luckily the Bears lost as well and the Packers still control their own destiny in the NFC North, IIRC.

The Packers do not control their own destiny.  They're a game behind us and we are unbeaten so far in the division while they have 2 losses to North teams.  We control our destiny, the Packers need plenty of help to even win a WC spot.

Yeah, losing to the Lions cost us the next tiebreaker even if we end up with the same record as the Bears.

Rodgers will not practice this week, looks like Flynn will be starting against the Pats.

Ouchie.

One day after Mike McCarthy said "the door is open" for Rodgers to be cleared to play as late as Sunday, the Packers ruled him out for tomorrow's game at New England, giving Matt Flynn his first career start and ending Rodgers' consecutive game streak one week after Favre's ended.

I  brought some work home to do during the game.

After losses by Tampa Bay and the Giants earlier in the day put the Packers in control of their own playoff destiny, they proved not quite ready for prime time, losing to the Patriots 31-27. Their final drive went awry when QB Matt Flynn took a big sack on first down. After two plays put them within a yard or two of a first, but with less than 30 seconds left and no timeouts, the offense stood around looking at each other for nearly all of that time before finally getting a snap off with five ticks left. Flynn then took another sack and fumbled.

The Packers' chances took a big hit at the end of the first half when, after scoring a TD to take a 17-7 lead, they allowed a 71-yard kickoff return to an O-lineman, which essentially gave the Pats a free touchdown before the whistle blew. Horrible, horrible horrible. The offense showed they can't tackle either, allowing a pick-6 in which approximately 8 offensive players missed a tackle.

Pathetic.

the Packers should spend less time uber celebrating each and every tiny thing they accomplish during a game

if I ever saw Kuhn on the street, I'd punt his marbles up and out of his ears
