The Maryland Terrapins Topic

I am retiring from keeping tracking threads. The coach who took over the final decision-making on Michigan State will be taking over Maryland. I don't like the new engine and have found myself to be burned out on HD. I hope this thread proves some use to people.

This is bad news.

Thank you for this thread, it's a huge contribution to people wanting to move up from d2 to d1.
6/4/2010 10:00 AM
yep, disappointing to hear cb. I enjoyed reading your team threads and did benefit from them. Maybe we'll see you back in the future.

it seems like the Press is still working for this team. Hill is a surprising force on offense under the new engine. Jaco and Lyons are having a field day.

Next, another chance at BC.

#52 PG, #238 Overall, **; redshirting. Ah, it's been a while since I've had a nice redshirt player who I knew was redshirting before they started their freshman year with me. As a redshirt PG, I really love the potential of Brian Hill. He could become a very good starting (pass-first) PG for me, or could become a decent career-long backup, depending on exactly where his "high" potential areas actually top off. Regardless, he should be an expert in our system for at least two years, and probaby three, and should be an important contributor. The NBA is not completely out of the question, but it is very improbable.
ah, Brian Hill.  He was an absolutely top notch 3 year backup, and a surprisingly great senior starter for us.  He didn't even top out all that highly but he just worked.  I am a big Brian Hill fan.  I love it when I recruit 2-star players and they become key factors for a winning team.

#2 PG, #22 overall, *****; no promises. Bobby Jaco will be a SG for me, and a damn good one. He's on the verge of starting - definitely challenging Harrison Parsons for the role right off the bat. It doesn't hurt that he already knows the system. I was lucky to get him without a challenge, because he's a great player - though his defense will not be outstanding, in terms of our recent history, but solid enough. Better than the great Richard Whittaker, an SG who played the PG slot, and one of my favorite recruits of all time.
Bobby Jaco was great as a junior and senior, and did pretty well before then (though his 3-point shooting was horrible in his first two years).  He's a definite pro.  In fact, we were very lucky to have him stay for his senior season.

In my opinion, this seems a bit low, but I guess his athleticism isn't top notch and his defense could be slightly better.

#1 SF, #4 overall, *****; promised the start, promised 15 minutes. Oh man...I never get top tier SFs. This is an enormous signing. I wrestled Nolan Lyons away from Syracuse. I expected a battle against them for him and I got one. I couldn't be more thrilled. He is fantastic. A surefire pro. I hope he's around for his junior season. A senior year is probably a pipe dream.
Unbelievably, Lyons stayed through four seasons.  He improved every year and was arguably the team's star this year (at the minimum, sharing the load with Jaco, with Hill as a strong support player).  It's hard to comprehend that with these two (or three) pros, we couldn't make it further than the Sweet Sixteen.  @$%^@^$!!!

Yeah, that's about right.  Definitely a lottery pick.  I don't know what the guys picked above him are like.

Transfer therefore unranked, but he certainly would be a five-star guy. promised 10 minutes.Based on my scouting of him, Forbush has low potential in rebounding, low post, and shot blocking. I don't think I got word on his FT potential, but I doubt it's good. He's got average potential basically everywhere else.

Anyways, Roger Forbush is a nice player, though his stats from his freshman year are awful. He's adept at the Press but unfamiliar with the Flex, so won't have a high distribution at all but will be able to see the court as our backup SG. Eventually I'm sure he'll be the starter, and he should do a good job after he's been in our program for a little while. I wish he rebounded better, and I'm going to pine mildly for Edmiston, but that's okay.
This jerk decided to leave early, so Maryland has a total of one guard for next year!  Forbush, you're alright, but you're not that good.  Say hello to the second round.  Man the team is so hurt by his departure.  Ugh.

It is completely ridiculous that this guy got drafted more highly than Jaco.  A few points of defense should matter far less than the huge gap in rebounding.
