Three quick reminders regarding the rules as we approach the finish line:
  • The salary cap for this league is $100M. If you go over the cap, I will insist that you replace the minimum number of drafted with $200K guys to get you below the cap. In practice, this means that if you are $3M over the cap, I will pick the player on your team closest to $3.2M and replace him with a $200K player. Please try to avoid this. (We had one owner admit that he mistook the cap for $110M before realizing his error, and so he has already volunteered to "forfeit" one of his drafted players for a $200K guy.)
  • Combined seasons are not allowed--only PARTIAL or FULL. There have been a couple of picks recently where an owner accidentally selected a player in a season where his only valid WIS season (25+ IPs or 50+ ABs) is a combined season. I didn't notice these picks in time to correct them before the draft had moved on, but technically, these are not valid selections per the league rules. In the name of keeping the draft moving, I'm not going to force these owners to re-pick, since I think these were honest mistakes rather than deliberate attempts to skirt the rules. Also, the players in question are all $200K to $300K scrubs, so I do not think this will impact competitive balance. But please try hard not to draft players in years where they have no valid full or partial season.
  • Lastly, a reminder: You must choose a ballpark that one of your players called home in your drafted season. So as you make your final picks, be sure to think about the ballpark you'll want to use.
That's all. Thanks for bearing with me as we work out the kinks of this new draft concept. Hope that jfranco77 is okay, wherever he is.
