I'm no law-talking guy but based on that failing New York Times article it appears the goal is to use this guy to screw Michael Cohen, so that Cohen might in turn be used to screw Trump.

But maybe I'm reading too much into this. Giuliani says Trump's in the clear either way because "he’s just not involved in the taxis." And presumably "the taxis" is all Mueller really cares about?
