Game 17: One day after 1-hitting the Seaphils, the Spectres are limited to two hits by four Cosmo pitchers. Thanks largely to Chuck Finley, however, the Spectres walk away with a 1-0 win. Chuck Finley pitches seven 1-hit innings, striking out five, to improve his record to 3-0.

Game 18: The streaking Spectres win their ninth straight, 8-4 over the Cosmos, getting home runs from Bret Boone and Ramon Hernandez. Prospect Rey Wergers pitches five innings and allows only three unearned runs in his secon start of the season.

Game 19: Montreal does little at the plate except for a three-run sixth and the Cosmos win it in the ninth, scoring a run off Matt Anderson on Dave Justice's single.

Game 20: Another sluggish start for the Spectre offense, but the team explodes for seven runs over the final three innings and take the series from New York with an 8-4 victory. Ken Griffey Jr. hits his second home run of the season. Finally.

Interleague sets with Cleveland and Detroit are next.

Game 22: Montreal manages only three hits against Russ Ortiz and a trio of Classic relievers, dropping a 5-3 decision.

Game 23: Chuck Finley has his first bad start of the season and Felix Rodriguez does little to help him out; Detroit beats the Spectres 6-4.

Game 24: The Facerockers rock the Spectres right out of the park, bludgeoning a series of relievers and getting fantastic work from David Wells, winning 9-0 at Montreal.

With an 0-4 record in interleague play, the Spectres are glad to return to NL East competition with a visit from Pittsbugh. The rest of the division did not fare well against the PL either and Montreal maintains a two game lead over New York.

Game 25: The opener gets exciting in the seventh, as the Spectres score twice to snap a 2-2 tie. Mike Remlinger pitches the eighth, allowing an RBI double and then a three-run homer (to Tom Lampkin, of all people), giving the Melons a 6-4 lead. Geoff Jenkins ties it almost immediately in the bottom half, hitting a two-run homer. A double by Melvin Mora is followed by two walks and a popout, bringing Ken Griffey Jr. to the plate with the bases loaded. Grif is hit by a pitch, forcing in the lead run. Then slumping Bret Boone comes through with a single, driving in two. Robb Nen retires the side in order to preserve a 9-6 win and snap a four-game skid.

Game 26: Carlos Delgado hits a two-run double in the third and a tie-breaking grand slam in the seventh, lifting the Spectres to a 7-3 victory. Matt Anderson gets the win in relief, his third of the season. Geoff Jenkins' second-inning homer accounts for the other Montreal run.

Game 27: Kelvim Escobar gets beat up by the Melons and Hideo Nomo mystifies the Spectre hitters as Pittsburgh wins 5-1. Pittsburgh gets four scoreless innings from its bullpen.

Game 28: Pittsburgh extends a 3-2 lead with EIGHT runs in the ninth, seven of them unearned (as Bret Boone and Melvin Mora commit critical errors) and while the Spectres answer with their own ninth-inning outburst it falls far short; Melons earn a split with the 11-7 victory.

Interleague series with Chicago and Orange County are next.

Game 31: Ray Wergers isn't great, allowing two runs in four innings, but it's plenty good enough in a game the Spectres collect 17 hits, even if 15 of them are singles. Billy McMillon hits his first home run and the Spectres beat OC, 9-4.

Game 32: Willie Blair takes another beating and OC's Kevin Brown strikes out nine Spectres as the Choppers roll over Montreal 8-2 to earn a split.
