Fine people in a crowd of fascists and racists?

That there are people that still defend Trump after his remarks about Charlottesville is beyond me.

If he needs some help, counseling, whatever in finding the right words he should listen to some of his republican friends:

We must be clear. White supremacy is repulsive. This bigotry is counter to all this country stands for. There can be no moral ambiguity.

— Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) 15. August 2017

This is simple: we must condemn and marginalize white supremacist groups, not encourage and embolden them.

— Senator Todd Young (@SenToddYoung) 15. August 2017

Mr. President, you can't allow #WhiteSupremacists to share only part of blame. They support idea which cost nation & world so much pain 5/6

— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) 15. August 2017
Trump handled it terribly. But there is no way that there weren't people there who were not white supremacists.
No way? Why?
For the exact same reason everyone protesting in Ferguson, MO weren't criminals. They were SURROUNDED by people looting, destroying property, stealing, etc, etc, but they stayed on the streets.

Are you going to put EVERYONE on the streets in Ferguson in the same category?

I think protesting/counter-protesting is stupid. But everyone who does it isn't doing it for the same reasons.
Two completely different situations.

People participating in the rioting in Ferguson were bad because they were rioting. People there but not participating in the rioting weren't necessarily bad people.

People participating in the nazi march were bad because they made the choice to participate in a nazi march. Even if violence hadn't broken out, they would still be bad people.
****. We went thru this.

Are you SURE that no one was there just to protest the removal of the statue? Say a local resident liked the statue. Just the beauty of it. Didn't even know who it was. Heard it was coming down and there was word of some protest. So he wandered down to view it one last time. HOLY ****!!!! NAZIS ON THE LEFT!!!! BLM ON THE RIGHT!!!! BOTH ARE ARMED!!!! THIS CAN'T BE GOOD!!!! I'M GETTING OUT OF HERE!!!

Too late. You're already a racist nazi because you were on the left side of the street. Might as well burn a cross and a make a shield.
But you left, though. So you didn't participate in the nazi march. Because you aren't a bad person.
How quickly does one have to leave to not "participate"?

What if said person didn't "participate", didn't leave but stood around to legally protest?

Bad person?
So someone saw who was organizing the protest and heard what was being chanted thought, "sure, I'll stand with these guys?"

Bad person.
I've never even heard of the person who organized the protest. Surely I'm not the only person on earth who didn't know his name. In fact, I didn't know a statue was being removed, that there was a protest planned and that some WS group organized it. Do you think I'm the only person who didn't know this?

So, if I was in downtown Charlottesville, saw a commotion and decided to see what it was about, am I a bad person?
"There were very fine people on both sides."

You aren't on a side.
Maybe I'm on the side that's sick of removing ANYTHING that ANYONE finds offensive. In fact I am on that side.

Which side of the street am I less likely to get beaten? The side protesting the removal of the statue? The side protesting the protestors who are protesting the removal of a statue?

So, if I wanted to make a stand, which I wouldn't because smart people remove themselves from that situation(which makes me a lot smarter than those who were killed/injured), where should I position myself? And does that position make me a "bad person"?

????

You described a specific situation of someone who just wondered over to see what was going on. That person isn't on a side. They are just watching.

He can renounce anyone he wants. He also has a history of some racial segregation in his businesses. Actions always mean more than mere words.
So what should he do.... Should his actions be similar to Duterte in the Philippines and he should just have the police go in and start killing off white supremacists? There are laws in this country. All he has are words... Until they break the law they can say whatever they want, which is unfortunate but an important part of free speech.
You're missing the point. He condemns racism and white supremacy, but his actions in the past say otherwise, just like he says he wants to bring jobs back to America but almost everything his companies sells is made elsewhere. What does he need to do? Nothing. The American public needs to be smart enough not to elect someone like him.
I'm not exactly sure what actions in the past prove he's a racist? He's in the hotel and casino business which employs an enormous amount of Latinos and other immigrants. That's an Action, right?

Everything any company in the US makes is made elsewhere because it's the best business decision available for them thanks to politicians. Trump's Actions have been mass deregulation across many industries to bring back jobs. His next Actions are corporate tax cuts and repatriation.

I'm glad your an Actions guy. So am I. How do you explain Obama talking about the evil rich yet only the rich increased wealth under his administration. Or his talk about big bad oil while the largest US oil boom EVER happened on his watch. Or his talk about guns being bad yet over 100,000,000 million guns were sold in 7 years. Just curious, Actions guy.
Can you show me where I posted that Obama was a great or even good president? Once again, a Trump supporter's response is "but so and so did this" instead of addressing the issue. What Obama did or didn't do as president is past and it won't change.
As for Trump's previous actions, here's a link for one:
http://www.npr.org/2016/09/29/495955920/donald-trump-plagued-by-decades-old-housing-discrimination-case

Oh
wait...I know. Fake news, right? That's the other Trump supporter response.

once again, even though I hate to admit it, I agree with Mike. If we remove everything that anyone finds offensive, there will be nothing left standing. There's very little in the world that someone, somewhere wouldn't find offensive.

Personally I can't think of any statue of anyone that I'd protest the removal of. If it is someone or something I feel is worthy or remembering, I'll remember them or it with or without a statue.

I thought that lawsuit was settled with no admission of guilt?

As for Obama... Clearly you must not like the man of little action, all talk.
8/17/2017 6:55 PM
as I've stated before, I don't like any politician. They will all say or do whatever they need to do to hold on to their positions or get elected to a better one.
As far as the lawsuit being settled without admission of guilt, that doesn't mean he wasn't guilty. Read about the lawsuit and it looks fairly obvious he was guilty.

It also doesn't mean he was guilty. Plus if the best you can do was 30+ years ago....

A true racist probably wouldn't have hired Ben Carson in his cabinet or called Herman Cain for primary election advice. Just sayin'.... Those are not the ACTIONS of a racist.

Is there any other evidence of specific ACTIONS that leads you to believe Trump's a racist?

My wife said it well as we were watching the national news . . . you can't sanitize history, nor should you try.

There was a piece on the CBS news about Stone Mountain in Georgia, how a number of people want that sculpture removed or altered because of what it represents. And what immediately came to mind was the images of when the Taliban started blowing up the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan in 2001, and how appalled I was by that, to see history being physically destroyed.

So I guess those who want to destroy historical artifacts can be considered the American Taliban.
8/17/2017 7:42 PM
They waited until 1972 to put that one up. During the segregated / busing issues
8/17/2017 7:53 PM
Stone Mountain was once owned by the Venable Brothers and was the site of the founding of the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915. It was purchased by the State of Georgia in 1958.
