Don`t understand trading Bitz...but I`m glad they did

Well, they made the playoffs. They are locked into 6th, which means that they'll pay whoever loses the game between New Jersey and Buffalo today.

They went 1-3 against the Devils and 4-2 against Buffalo this year. Choosing between facing Ryan Miller and Martin Brodeur is like being asked to choose between dying by hanging and a firing squad.

I think you might see a firing squad today with OV playing the Bruins and wanting to win the RR Trophy as well as the AR trophy.

Then again.......maybe not. WTG Bruins.

As, expected, they get the #2 pick in the draft.

Either player will be a cornerstone for the franchise for the next decade and beyond....You just don't get first choice, but you won the Kessel trade.

...and Toronto's 1st pick in 2011.

The Bruins got Toronto's 1st 2 picks this year AND 1st next year for Kessel. This year's pick is #2 overall. Can you even name the last #2 pick that didn't turn into a star in this league? Add to it the other picks (and next year's could be a lottery pick as well), and barring something disastrous, the Bruins won this trade.

As for the Wesley trade, of course there's only 1 guy in the NHL...the trade happened FIFTEEN years ago. Samsonov won a Calder, and was very good for several seasons until he plateaued. The Bruins traded him and one of the pieces they got back was a pick they used on Lucic. McLaren was a very solid d-man for the Bruins for a long time. Aitken never panned out, but still the Bruins still got the better end of that trade. Carolina did not win because of Wesley. In fact, he was in Hartford and Carolina for 8 years before they traded him away. Yes, he came back the next season, but he was not the reason Carolina won the Cup.

Samsonov, Lucic and McLaren for Wesley? How did Carolina win that trade?

Well the difference is in one case, you're getting a guy who has had success at the NHL level before and in the other, you're getting a draft pick who has proven exactly nothing. Kari Lehtonen, David Legwand, Andrei Zyuzin and Oleg Tverdovsky are all #2 overall busts from the last 15 years. There have been many good players in that span as well that have gone #2, but how many of them would you take over Phil Kessel right now?

As for the Wesley trade, I was simply stating it as an example. Sergei Samsonov had 2 29 goal, 70 point seasons and that was pretty much it, Kyle McLaren played over 70 games only twice in 7 injury plagued seasons with the Bruins and was a minus player more often than not. Wesley post trade? 2 Stanley Cup runs in Carolina going +12 in one and +16 in the other, averaging over 20 minutes per game during his playoff career in Carolina, winning a Cup and being the leader of a group of unsung defensemen in both runs.
How did Carolina win the Wesley trade? Stanley Cups - Carolina 1, Boston 0.

Tverdovsky was 1994, Zyuzin was 1996, and Legwand was 1998, so you could only come up with 1 in the past 12 years and that was a goalie with a crappy team in front of him. Yes, I'd rather have the #2 pick than Phil Kessel right now. Kessel would not have made a difference in Boston this year. They were next to last in scoring, 1 guy would not have made much of a difference, since nobody else was scoring on the team.

Carolina wins 1 Cup 11 years after trading for Glen Wesley (and trading him away, then re-signing him), and that's why they win the trade? Perhaps the Bruins could have won a Cup too, if only he knew how to hit an empty net.
