Ouch, dudes.

I was scoping around for some outside-the-box solutions, and although I would like to see McClellan get a shot at the rotation, I would love to see the Birds try for Yu Darvish from the Nippon league. He would cost a bundle, though, and is pretty much a pipe dream. Here is his wiki page.

Darvish would have to be posted by his team first.  Even then, it will likely cost more than the $51.1M the Red Sox paid for the negotiating rights with Dice-K just to talk to Darvish.  Because of the money that will be involved, it's hard to imagine him playing anywhere but with the Yankees if he ever does come to MLB.  Few teams would have the cash to be players in that game.

Yup. Pipe dream. I think it said in wiki that his contract ran through this year..maybe next year. You can be sure the Yanks will be chomping at the bit if he's as good as his numbers imply. 97 mph heater?! wow.

... well, except for Ryan Franklin.

Unfortunately, the Redbirds have never had justification for a "Fear the Beard" slogan, unless it was used as self-deprecating humor.

If I were Franklin, I would shave and hope I got a fresh start out of it.

Franklin removed from closer's role.  The rest of the NL weeps now that someone with actual talent may be the new closer.

But I give Franklin credit for doing better than anyone thought he had any reason to do in his other seasons as a closer. He was never very good, but he exceeded my expectations. I think he got the most out of his limited portion of talent. Now, I hope Boggs or Motte (or someone) can step it up a couple of notches.

Gotta admit this is pretty funny, even if a Card fan thought of it.

The "someone" is apparently Eduardo Sanchez, who looks like he might be better than Boggs. Both were sharp in today's Game 2 win, preserving a victory for Garcia.

Damn, I want that shirt.
