Repeal the 14th amendment!!!!!!  This from the party that says they believe in the constitution?

The original intent of the Constitution.

The 14th Amendment used freeing the slaves as an excuse to move the bulk of the power from the state to Federal Government. To this day Liberals say "States Rights" is code for racist!

Amazing! Among other lies my teacher told me is the one about the 14th amendment purpose being to keep states from denying citizenship from the children of recently freed slaves. BUT, I should have guessed that since as we have now been told, the Civil War was not about slavery why would we need constitutional amendments related to slavery? There is just no end to the educational potential of the pit!

What would we gain by repealing the 14th amendment?

By the way, there was no original intent of the constitution in regards to immigration.  With the exception of criminals, we had an open immigration policy.

I heard on GMA this morning that there is some pull to change the 14th amendment to remove the problem of anchor babies..  According to ABC, the US is the only country in the world where citizenship is a birth right.

Wikipedia
States that observe jus soli (birthright citizenship) include:

I don't see how anchor babies are a problem under our laws.  The parents can still be deported giving them two choices; take your child with you or hand them over to the state.

um.... this isn't Teh Pit.

But indeed you are correct.  The whole Civil War was about the economics of slavery and electing a polarizing president like Lincoln caused a seperation.

I had a feeling that ABC was lying about this.

...and I agree 100% with you, That should be the two choices for the parents.  Once the kid turns 18, they can come on back.

Constitutionalists believe that the Constitution can be changed.  But if the rules are in place, they must be followed until it has been changed.

If you don't believe this, I will come over there and slap that martini out of your hand.

They probably weren't lying.  They were just reporting in the manner that every major news network does these days; from the hip and without any real research.

There is also a move among conservatives to repeal the 17th amendment. This whole thing about the people electing their senators is just more democracy then the average Republican is comfortable with. Our leaders must be chosen by our country's elite, not Joe and Jane Sixpack.

I have a problem with the repeal of the 14th since one of my grandfathers snuck into this country from Canada during prohibition. Does this mean I lose my citizenship?

That being said, I don't believe in the "deport everyone" theory that many on the right are advocating.  Immigration reform is going to be a multi-step process that should provide a means for those that are currently in this country and working to obtain temporary work visas that they can use as a step to citizenship.

I think you're missing the point of expressing impotent rage, creil. No one wants your "solutions".

Or, to put it another way: Derka derb!
