OK. I got curious, so I took a look at your franchise.
I'm puzzled.
I assume that you're burdened by bad players with large contracts this season; that's why you've got $72m tied up in players contracts. But why did you allocate $110m to your payroll budget and go cheap on some of your other budgets (prospect, advanced scouting, international scouting)?
I can understand your concept of "put the money where it will do the most good". So why is $38m sitting unused in payroll when you could have maxed out advanced scouting and maybe some others? How is that $38m working for you?

About 32m of that was signed by me. I added 6 young role players via FA.
14m is the max I'll put into advanced scouting. That seems to give me a "good enough" idea.
I only put 6m into prospect because I knew I'd only get two players in the draft who will be factors. I'll go conservative because I need to know I'll be able sign players who'll help. 6m will be more than enough.
I'm staying out of the international market this season. The good ones are usually bid up beyond their actual value. With my team in the shape it's in, paying 10m for a player who'll help me in 3-4 seasons is bad value.
So, with all that in mind, my payroll ended up where it did. There was no conscious effort to set payroll. But I carefully thought out how the rest of the money would be used. The unused payroll leaves the most flexibility for trades, WW claims and transfer to prospect(if necessary after the draft).

with that much in extra payroll, you can snag a lot of talent off the WW ... sure, nobody is going to waive a stud with a good contract, but you might get some overpriced contributors for "free"

FA is about to end. People will need to make roster room. I'm hoping to get a few guys from my #2 WW position when they do.
I'll also have the ability to offer "cap room" if anyone needs it. Just send me your overpriced schlub and a prospect.

I'm also playing this season under the assumption that I cannot compete for the playoffs. So I'm just trying to be respectable while adding players who will help me in Season 3.

EDIT: it was Mitch's team. His team was nowhere near as bad as yours was, though. He did around .500 every year.

And when I am a as much a n00b as the guy I was trading w/, I wouldn't say it diminishes my accomplishments. Not at all.

Well, if nothing else, you found a fish and kept going back to the well.

Well put.

You want to try this team? Did you forget about Joe Crane and his mucho money and long *** contract as a career minor leaguer. Or any of the other long *** contracts. Or the fact there was no minor leaguer worth a damn. Or the average 35 control, or the multi of guys with an eye of 1. I'm almost begging to get Mike's team. BEGGING I SAY.

I should start a thread: Breaking Down the Ice Nuts.

sounds painful.

And for that reason alone you can count on everybody reading it.
