Fielding Coache’s Ages Topic

In 5 seasons, MG will not have a problem with FI. GD Bryant might but MG will not.

Of course, GD Bryant has a problem with minor league catchers. GD Bryant is not good with adapting and problem solving.

Dennis Clarke? In Moonlight Graham? The guy that will have 80 Discipline next season, you think he will get hired as a fielding instructor? If he ever gets let go by the current coach he is on path to be a major league coach. 2 others in Moonlight might get hired if they don't get rehired in their current position, one of those guys has been rehired by the same team 7 straight seasons.

Look at the ages on those guys. They'll be around after I die.

Please link the coaches that led you to this conclusion, because I just checked a random sampling of the hitting coaches in one of my Worlds, at different levels, and no one under the age of 60 (and only one aged 61) failed to improve at least one point in fielding, regardless of level of employment as a hitting coach, and most had at least a couple seasons of 2 or 3 point jumps in fielding. A glance at the bench coaches shows similar improvement - hell, even pitching coaches improve in fielding IQ, they just start so low they may never get above 30.

7 more who will be 50+ inside of two seasons if hired. 56 and 46 are the oldest. Add that to the three guys who are 30 and under and we have 8 UNHIRED coaches who will be good FI in your apocolyptic 5-6 seasons.

You think Dusty Hayes if he decides not to resign will become a fielding coach with a 85 Hitting? That is the problem you keep picking players that once they decide to not sign will most likely be hitting coaches before fielding coaches.

Dusty Hayes, Hal Falk, Toby Hubbard, Dave Bradshaw will all probably have a 79+ Hitting rating next season.

So the only ones that have stopped progressing are the ones who existed at World creation? Those that have begun coaching since are still improving, no?

The 2 "new" coaches that you provided URLs for have improved:

2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, & 1 point while employed as a hitting coach from rookie to AA level; &

2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, & 1 point while employed as a bench coach from rookie to AA level.

Plague, where did you get the idea that a coach will pick a hitting coach job over a fielding coach job, regardless of money offered?

It may be true, but I hadn't heard any such thing before and you seem to be relying heavily on it being accurate.

They are not working. uNHIRED!!! Obviously they were not needed as hitting coaches. The problem you have is that you're not thinking.

Owners who need fielding coaches will pick these guys up as, wait for it, wait, wait, FIELDING COACHES.

I'm a little disappointed because I thought there was a chance you had a point of some kind. You don't.

9/18/2009 10:34 PM
Wow, you had an 85 hitting IQ guy looking for a AAA gig go unhired? I know the patience is low (18), but he's a respectable ML hitting coach in my World.
9/18/2009 10:37 PM
Hell, just cut my number in half. Say only 4 per season get hired as FI. In 5 seasons, that's about 20 new FI. That's a pretty solid number.

Experience. If a person wants a coach as his major league bench, pitching, or hitting coach and you want him for fielding you are going to lose to the more prestigious job. Its the same if you want a coach for high A and someone offers that player a AA you are going to lose.
