Marketing always makes sense, but during a recession, WIS is lucky if it can keep its current owners with the current # of teams.

And WIS marketing to new owners means more free teams, introductory offers, etc., which creates a temporary increase in demand, but likely doesn't solve any long-term problems.

As for quality, WIS has consistently made improvements to the game. Everyone has some issues, but basically, the people who play WIS like the game.

I agree with Mike on this one. Too many worlds is the problem that needs to be addressed. Maybe they could loosen up the world merging scenario, and make it so that 3 worlds could become 2 (or 4 could become 3), if those worlds have the right amount of people to fill two/three worlds. The paying customers get to keep their teams, and the supply issue gets addressed.

Marketing is a vague term thrown about by people who don't understand markets, economics, or supply/demand.

Banner ads on sports websites is marketing. Buying a billboard in rural Kentucky is marketing. It's ****** marketing, but marketing nonetheless.

Saying "They need more marketing" is like saying "We need to increase profits". Without a clear direction, it's pointless and a waste of time and money.

I think they can already do this.

I think it's funny that anyone thinks "WifS should just get more customers" is as simple as it sounds.

The reason the economy is a mess is because there aren't enough customers.

Carpenters use hammers, but using a hammer is not carpentry.

"Marketing is defined as the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large."

How do you market the game to someone who doesn't have access until 6 PM at night? "Don't worry, you'll only miss 4 of 6 cycles"?

At my old job I didnt have access durring the day. That meant when playing sim league games I was missing both the PM and PM2 games simming. If I wasnt able to get online in the morning before work, (which was difficult because of my young daughter at the time) I could go through 3 cycles without seeing my team.

That lead to me not playing anymore Sim Baseball untill I was able to get my schedule changed around and there is much less to do day to day in the SIM Baseball leagues.

I find that my friends that have regular 9-5 jobs are hard to recruit. The ones I have recruited only want one team, no matter how much they love the game.

I'm in complete shock that WifS allowed new worlds to be created in the past 3="6" months. World Metroplis shouldn't have been created.

I can't believe I once ran 18 teams. Some were abandons, but I paid for most of them. Thats like 150$ a month. I'd do it again but my life is better and I have less money now. (wierd combo) For me its an issue of its ridiculous to pay 100s of dollars for a text game a month.

I have the time and would play many teams but its stupid to spend that much. A flat fee for use of the site per month is the answer if not contracting worlds.

Private worlds could remain that way and just not let people in that would harm the world. Lots of regulars could take on more teams and fill the worlds and be happy.

They could put a cap on how many teams you could run. You could apply to have the cap raised by showing efficiency on the teams you do have.

To some of you geniuses Im sure this isn't a great idea and you'll pick it apart. Im just throwing something out there.

Players are already rated rookie-HOF, - they could "unlock" more teams using that rating to determine it.

I like that idea Knucks, that is truly out of the box thinking.
It wouldn't be hard to buy or earn different tiers of ownership possibilities for the user. Give owners player points based on success to reach different tiers and perks. The owner would decide whether or not to add a team to their account when a different tier is reached.

Achieving a tier would be accomplished either by accumulating player points quickly by managing successful franchises, or over a longer period of time when you are either rebuilding or not enjoying as much success as others.

Tier Level max. # of teams Cost/month

Prospect 1 $7.99

Rookie 2 11.99

Pro 3 14.99

Veteran 5 24.99

All-Star 7 34.99

Hall of Famer 10 49.99

Of course, if an owner just wants one or two teams, they just pay the $7.99. If they want 3 teams, and have earned enough player points, then, they pay the $9.99, and so on. The fee would be a 3 month debit to your CCard/payment method.

Player points would be given out for playoff appearances/performance and wins at the ML and Minor League levels.

it's a good idea knucklebones

There are some All-Stars and Hall of Famers on this site who have never played HBD. Under this proposal, they could come in immediately and reap the max benefits.

I also doubt that WIS is going to put a limit on how many teams a person can own and cut down on their revenue stream with that tiered cost structure. A HOFers money is just a green as a Rookies.

And as you know, in any business, money/profits are the bottom line.
9/30/2009 6:31 AM
Hehe. So WifS would allow me to have 10 teams for $19.99 a month instead of the $80 a month it would normally cost me.

yoker, could you come help me with my business? I'd like to take an extended vacation.
