I'm sure I don't care what you'd consider.

But I'll ask you this: I assume you have a job. I assume you're closed on certain days. Some of these days may be American or religion based. Do you demand to work on these days? If not, why?

I'm one of those Americans with a job that has no holidays (law enforcement). Floating holidays, scheduled 6 months in advance. And you'll never hear me whining about it - I chose this career and the responsibilities that come with it. Most people do get those days off - heck, I can request them off, for the sake of my family, but they are NOT a god-given right. Some jobs are 24/7/365 and believe me, you're happier because some of us choose to do them.

Right now, HBD has a fair system in place - there is no preferential treatment given to anyone. You play HBD, you live with the schedule. I'm sure MOST people want an occaissional break. I'm sure MOST of the paying customers would be OK with HBD being "closed" five days a year. I'd prefer, when I do have to work on Christmas, to have my HBD teams playing so I can make those hours pass faster. If WifS were to implement your suggestion, I'd live with it.

But it's a dumb idea. Currently, it works. And while it might be inconvenient for the vast majority to have HBD games simmed on Christmas, for a small sub-set, it might be the only "joy" they get on that day.

For the record, I'll be working Christmas Day, 2009. My family & I will be celebrating December 6th, because that's the only day it works for the whole extended family. And I'm sure I'll check my HBD teams several times, both days, because this is an activity that helps me pass the time at work, and at home, in my pursuit of happiness.

I'm just about to declare you the dumbest member on the site if you can't answer these simple questions:

What competitive advantage do I gain if no games are scheduled on 12/25 or, just for the hell of it, 12/28? What is the advantage? How am I receiving preferential treatment?
11/24/2009 1:02 PM
Just when I think I've got the answers, MikeT changes the questions!!

As it stands now, there is no "advantage". When your world is scheduled, each and every member of that world has no choice but to adhere to the schedule. If the final day of coach hiring / FA signing falls on December 25th (or December 28th) then every single member of the world has to deal with that.

If December 25th becomes a "non-event" day, then people who celebrate the holiday on that date do not have HBD responsibilities that day. But December 26th, a national holiday in other countries, is NOT afforded this consideration. Events would proceed, as scheduled, without consideration of their holiday. Now, that might be a tiny minority of the HBD customer base. But I maintain it is an ADVANTAGE if you get a "day off" on your holiday and our Canadian friends do not receive the same consideration theirs.

If you can't understand why establishing "American holidays" as "non-event" days for HBD is biased and unfair, I can't explain it any better to you. You get to eat turkey and spend time with your family with no HBD consequences. Anyone who doesn't celebrate on the 25th gets no "day off".

I feel so dirty. I actually used "Canadian friends" correctly in a sentence. I'm sure DHS is ashamed of me.
