This conf is going to be absolutely ridiculous next season.

I am curious about your formulas and the method of how you reached your conclusions. And have you used it to correlate closer to preferred attributes.

But mostly just wondering if there will be any easy conf games next season.

and flyers is crazy and will poach this thread before long.

HP-the O/D rankings are based on offensive and defensive efficiency, which is simply points/possessions and opponents points/opponents possessions x100.

The Top 5 Recruits Entering the ODAC:

 #1-Adam Encarnacion, SF, Bethany

Although there were a lot of very good recruits coming into the ODAC this year (10 very strong candidates), there wasn’t one who had the potential to be a super-duper star. Adam Encarnacion’s ability to play defense as well as score the basketball is what makes him the best recruit coming into the ODAC.  Encarnacion projects out to be a very good small forward for coach khook’s press. He will be a very good defender with ath/spd/def all over 60 and shotblocking somewhere over 30.  Although his LP isn’t fantastic, he’ll still be a threat to score inside while also being a deadly 3 point shooter with a perimeter rating that should get to 80+.  Although his BH and P aren’t very good now, they will be pretty good when his senior year rolls around.

#2-Jared Graham, C, Bridgewater

Bridgewater pulled in quite a recruit with Jared Graham.  If only he had better LP he would be the next ODAC stud big guy, but he still looks pretty damn good.  The main reason Graham is behind Encarnacion is Graham’s lack of work ethic.  I’m not sure about where Graham will fit into the rotation this year, but starting and playing a good chunk of minutes could really help his development towards becoming a rebounding machine.

 #3-Dustin Trosper, SG, Bethany

Bethany’s second best recruit pulls in at #3 overall.  Trosper is another guy who fits khook’s pressing system incredibly well as he should get to 75+ ath, 65+ spd, and 75+ def.  I could easily see Trosper leading the ODAC in steals and being the ODAC DPOY.  On top of his defensive abilities, Trosper will also be a good offensive player with a good combo of BH/P and the ability to knock down a midrange shot.

#4-William Mattia, SF/PF, Roanoke

Although Roanoke only came out with one recruit this year, it was a quality one.  William Mattia will be starting at SF this year, but as his Ath/Reb/LP get up, he should be moving over to the PF spot and last year’s #4 recruit Joseph Reynolds can move back to his more natural SF position.  Mattia will be a decent rebounder and post player, but his real strength will be his ability to shoot and handle the ball.  Although he’ll never be a fast SF, he should be a pretty fast PF and will hopefully end up being an extremely efficient scorer.

#5-Leonard Boyle, PG, Bethany

For the first time since I started doing this we have three recruits all coming from the same team in the Top 5.  Leonard Boyle projects out to be a very good pure point guard for Bethany.  Although he’ll never be a scorer, Boyle will be very fast with great BH/P.  I could see Boyle dishing out 6+ assists per game to his stellar teammates his Jr. and Sr. seasons.

Personally I rated John Hill better than Jared Graham, Hill has the RS, will be a monster come SR year :)

Graham is looking at 20ish minutes behind McMurrin, Kruse and Moore have tonnes of potential as well, both will likely be 3 year starters.

W&L is predicting that SF recruit John Love will become the best player recruited at W&L up to that point.
Now just need some serious growth of the five High-High potentials to reach 40+ per category :)

SEASON 56 ODAC RECRUITING REVIEW

East Mennonite

catjuggler23

Recruits:

Recruit Commentary: Coming off of their worst season since coach catjuggler took over, which dropped them all the way down to C prestige, EMU brought in a decent pair of recruits.  Their first recruit is point guard Dean Murray.  Hailing from PA, Murray look like he might have the right stuff to be a good guard in the ODAC.  Murray will be very fast, play decent defense and be able to dish out assists.  I see Murray being successful because of his LP.  A fast guard with 40+ LP is hard to stop.  Wycoff, on the other hand, will not be hard to stop.  Wycoff does have some high potentials and if they’re high-high he could be a star, but right now I think he’s just a mediocre player.

They didn’t recruit this year because they had no openings.

Recruit Commentary:  Michael Riccardi looks like one hell of a recruit.  If he manages to reach all of his potentials he will be a super star and potentially the best recruit in this class.  The reason I left him out of the Top 5 all-together is because I think he’ll never end up reaching those potentials.  If he started right away and got his WE up, he might be able to get close to his max, but 4 games into the season he’s played a total of 1 minute.  This year seems like a lost year in terms of development.  I think Riccardi will be good, just not as good as he could have been had he had a good WE.  Robinson also looks like a very good recruit.  I took a long look at going after him myself, but ended up spending my $ elsewhere (unfortunately).  Robinson will be a very solid player at PF or SF.  He’s fast enough and will have the perimeter skills to play SF as well as having the rebounding, shot blocking, and low post skills needed to be a good PF.  I see Todd Robinson being very successful on a team that has a lot of young talent.

Recruit Commentary:  I put Jared Graham at #2 on the Top 5 because I think this guy will be a special rebounder and defender.  His offense might roll around by his senior year, but even if it doesn’t this guy will still be a great player.  John Hill is another big that looks pretty great.  He won’t be the rebounder or defender that Graham will be, but unlike Graham Hill will have great post skills.  I see Hill being very good, but never great because of his 45 ath that is already capped.  Louis Kruse and Michael Moore both look like absolute studs until you see their work ethics, which absolutely suck.  Neither is starting this year, so I find it hard to believe this guys will even get close to their ceilings.

Recruit Commentary:  If my first choice SF hadn’t talked to me I would have gone all-out on George Baines.  I think this guy is going to be very good.  His potent mix of ath/spd/def is great in anyone’s system and should be a great rebounder out of the SF position.  He won’t be amazing offensively, but he will certainly be able to score with his decent skills and awesome athleticism.  Paul Napoli is another big coming into the ODAC this year with work ethic problems.  IF he ends up reaching his potential, he could be very good.  He is RSing this year and it looks like he will be playing major minutes this year, so I see him getting close to his ceiling by the time his time at H-S is up.

Recruit Commentary:  I think both of these guys have the potential to be very good players.  I left both off of my Top 5, but both were very close to making it.  Keplar won’t be all that fast, but he’ll be a very good PG who will be able to dish it out to his teammates as well as score the ball himself. He might not be as good of a pure point guard as Bethany’s Leonard Boyle, but he’ll be a much better scorer.  His athleticism is a little low right now, but if that gets up, look out, because he could be a heck of a player.  Whitcher is another guy who almost made the Top 5, but was one of the first off.  He is one of the many SFs that have entered the ODAC recently with tons of athleticism and speed.  He’ll be a pretty good rebounder and player in the post, too.  He’ll be an extremely solid player for R-M.

Recruit Commentary:  We only filled one of our two scholarships, but we filled it with what I think will be a great player.  William Mattia will probably end up playing mostly PF, but when we go big, he could see some time at SF.  Either way, I think he’ll be a beast.  He’ll be pretty athletic, although not overly-so.  His speed isn’t great for an SF, but he’ll be a fast PF.  He should reach 70 rebounding, which will put on par with most other PFs in the league.  His biggest downfall is his lack of great shot blocking, which particularly helps in the zone, but that’s why we recruit Centers I guess.  His combo of potentially great LP/Per leads me to believe he will be a scoring machine no matter what position he plays.  He will start from day 1 (because I promised him he would), so his development should move along pretty quickly.

Recruit Commentary:  VWC, like Roanoke, only brought in one recruit with two openings.  Dominc Lilley doesn’t look like a fantastic player, but with a great combo of ath/spd/def, some rebounding and BH along with being able to shoot FTs, Lilley should end up being a pretty decent player for VWC.

Recruit Commentary:  Like the two schools before them, W&J had two openings and only brought in one recruit.  Michael Reuter comes from PA and will be a pretty good player.  He’ll be a more perimeter oriented SF than the ones we’ve seen before him.  Reuter will end up being a good scorer and his 65+ passing at SF will help any offense.

Recruit Commentary:  Ted Hicks looks like he’ll be a solid transfer for W&L, which should help them be at least slightly competitive this year.  Bruce Greenly looks like a mediocre SF, but he might be able to put up points if his BH gets better.  John Love is actually a pretty decent recruit.  He’ll be pretty athletic and able to score the ball.  Schweiker on the other hand, is not very good.  I’m not sure what position this guy will play, but he has a shot to surprise with potentially decent scoring ability.

Recruits:

Recruit Commentary:  This year was truly the year of Bethany.  They pulled in three fantastic recruits who all made this year’s Top 5.  Leonard Boyle will be a great pure point guard.  Ronald Brown, who is yet another big with WE problems, could see a good amount of early playing time and reach his potential, which would make him a pretty awesome player.  Adam Encarnacion came in as our #1 recruit this year because I feel he will be a pretty great player.  James Scott is probably their worst recruit and he is still going to be pretty good.  He won’t be as good as these other guys, but he’ll be a good role player for Bethany.  Trosper came in at #3 on the top 5 and I think this guy will be a defensive stud.   Congrats to khook on an awesome class.

Great work as always - this has become one of my favorites and look forward to your recruiting posts. My only comment - well 2 comments - regarding Reuter: 1) you calling him a more "perimeter oriented" player I don't understand, and 2) would your view change if you had known his LP is STL and PER is high-high?
4/13/2011 11:11 PM
By perimeter oriented I mean he won't have great reb or sb and he does have good bh/pass for a SF.
4/13/2011 11:16 PM
Thanks for the time it takes for you to do this.  Even though every season it ****** me off to read I also enjoy doing it.  You and I clearly look for different qualities in recruits.  In the three years you've given grades I've received a C-, and 2 C+s.

Wycott--my take, a PF with greens in ATH, LP, REB and shot blocking with a WE in the 50s is much better than "will not be hard to stop or  just a mediocre player"
4/13/2011 11:47 PM
I've got no problems with the assessment of Lilley.  He'll turn into a decent FB/FCP player because of the speed/ath, but it was definitely a mediocre recruiting season.  Went in hard right away on 2 guys...1, got beat off by dahs and a D2 school and Lilley took WAY more money to beat a simmie than I'd have ever suspected so I was unable to get a 2nd guy late.

The grade was probably a bit harsh cat, because you did pull in two decent recruits with a C prestige, but I'm still not a huge fan of Wycott.

Good stuff TK.  I appreciate your hard work and really look forward  to your recruiting review.......

Thanks tk as always.  I knew Bethanys class was good but it's scary to see them grouped together in that screenshot.

Also, mike posted that he "got beat off by dahs", and I think that is funny.
