If we were going to do the UNO drafting method (which I would support)  wouldn't it make sense to allow the person with the first pick in a round to pick which group we draft from during that round?  Would add more strategy to the draft and gives everyone the chance to target a need position or particular player.

i  like this idea..makes great sense.

first time running this league guys, thanks for baring with me : )
maybe next season...i hate to change things too much once we've started

Actually, I don't think starting off towards the bottom (as my team #1 is) is that bad of a position to be in. I'll have a late pick in the early rounds when the talent pools are deep and there are tons of quality players to choose from (so picking 20th isn't too bad). And then in the later rounds, when the pickings are much slimmer, it will be nice to have an earlier pick.
3/2/2011 9:54 PM
Yeah, I wish I picked somewhere not between #3 and #20...

So, I won't get the first pick until round 20. Was there any thought to randomizing the top WAR players? Seems like the folks from rounds 19- on are pretty screwwed since they don;t get a top five selection until we are WAYYYYY down the talent pool. Ohh, wow, I get first dibs on SCOTT FLETCHER AWESOME, screw the BABE, I want Fletcher!!!
have you even went to baseball reference and seen who will be there in round 20?  There are some pretty good players to be taken there. Not everyone can have ruth however the top 40 are all very good players, in round 20 you can have some very good offense with tulo, longoria, etc please check it out and see.

Damn you jbar, I wanted Cobb.  We'll go in a different direction and nab my ace.  Bob Gibson

just noticed that gerlin just posted this.

"Picking 13 i never have a shot at the best players in a pool.....i'm out"

never saw anyone drop out due to their random draft position.......

does anyone want a second team?  you would be drafting now......
3/3/2011 11:14 AM
Well, I don't want another team but I'm still not clear on what the draft order is.  I thought we moved away from snakestyle and were going with shifting the draft order uno style (i.e. every round you shift up one in the draft order).  However, the draft rounds would be set 1, 2,3, 4, etc rather than picked by the first owner in that round.
If that is the draft style, I would think that would address his concern and he'd stay in.  I think part of the problem is that in this league, a snakestyle draft really does give a significant advantage to those at the ends of the draft.  Seeing as we're only in round 1 and most seemed to favor moving towards an Uno type model anyway, I'm not sure why we couldn't change it.
3/3/2011 11:44 AM
Well, we are doing the UNO format, not the snake. Take a look at the upcoming draft orders for round 2 and 3, hopefully this answers your
Question.

We are not snake drafting!!!!

And quite frankly, I don't want anyone in the league who drops out due to their draft position.. Just asking for further headaches from someone who does that.

Ill wait a few hours, otherwise I'll take this team as a second
