UNLV is 80% on Reggie Theus, and 20% on Dave Rice (former player, UNLV/BYU assistant, brother coaches Bishop Gorman HS in Las Vegas... tons of good recruits coming from there).

Given the AD said they only hire coaches with 2 years HC experience, I hope they do hire Theus and Rice stays put.

EDIT:  It's now looking like Dave Rice has a great shot here.

CHICAGO -- Former Illinois State coach Porter Moser will be named Loyola's men's basketball coach this week, according to multiple sources.

Moser has spent the past four seasons at Saint Louis on Rich Majerus' staff. He has been the team's associate head coach for the last three seasons.

Moser previously was the head coach at Illinois State from 2003-2007. In his four seasons, the Redbirds went 51-67 overall, 22-50 in the Missouri Valley and had one winning season. He had three years remaining on his contract when he was bought out by Illinois State following the 2006-2007 season.

Moser also coached at Arkansas-Little Rock from 2000-2003. His teams went 54-34 overall and had three winning seasons.

Moser has a reputation for recruiting in the Chicago area. Former Illinois State star Osiris Eldridge, who played at Phillips High School in Chicago, and Saint Louis freshmen Mike McCall (Foreman) and Dwayne Evans (Neuqua Valley) were recruited by Moser.

I would also love to see Butler join the A-10.  The problem is that the conference is too big and too nice to kick out some programs that need to go.  They need to kick Fordham to the curb.  When they were invited to join the A-10 the thought was the A-10 schools would be visiting NYC, (which would help recruiting), and the Rams would be committed to building their program.  They just aren't willing or able to financially back the B-Ball program to make them competitive.  Charlotte will leave the A-10 when their D1 football program starts in 2013.  They aren't spending 100s of millions of $ to start a D1 program and play in a basketball only conference.  And conference realignments aren't over yet.  There could be a lot of dominos that affect a lot of conferences.

As for coaching, I think Dino Gaudio will get another shot somewhere. And keep an eye on Pat Kelsey, Xavier's top assistant.  He is a local boy: Elder High School and XU, but Mack will be around for a while.  Pat won't stay an assistant for long.  He is probably getting calls now but I don't see him leaving for a start-up program.  When he goes it will be to a good mid-major in the Midwest.  In fact, if Stevens ever left Butler, Kelsey would be a great fit.

Pat Kelsey withdrew from consideration for the job at Towson but is one of the 5 finalists at Kent State.

Terry Evans, coach at Central Oklahoma, has been offered the job at Lamar but hasn't made a decision. He also interviewed at Oklahoma and told Lon Kruger, "You need to take this job."   Evans has also expressed interest in being an assistant to Kruger at Oklahoma

Larry Johnson, who led UNLV to the 1990 NCAA title, wants the job but he has no prior coaching experience. He said that, if hired, he'd bring on another UNLV star, Stacey Augmon, as his assistant. Last summer, Johnson turned down a offer to be an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls. Augmon is an assistant with the Nuggets.

Kent State would be a good fit for Kelsey.  He is a tremendous recruiter and he could build that program quickly.  It would be a great first HC job for him.

I don't like this signing by Dayton.  If he has any success at all he won't stay.  If you are going to sign a first time HC at a program that should have a shot at the NCAA every year, you would think you would sign someone with local ties and migth want to stick around for a while.

Three weeks ago, the Tuscon newspaper referred to Archie Miller as 'a recruiting and strategist extraordinaire" and wondered why he hadn't been snapped up before.
Don Donoher was at Dayton for 25 years. After him it was Jim O'Brien (5 years),  Oliver Purnell (10) and Brian Gregory (8). 5-10 years is about the best Dayton can expect.
