GOP psychos obsessed with Planned Parenthood Topic

And, since you seem to have forgotten, I'm pro-choice.  I don't give a rat's *** what PP does with federal funds.   I'm just saying it takes a complete moron to think that federal money plays no part in funding abortions.

How could I forget something I had no way of knowing in the first place?

And define "plays no part", because you're getting into some shakey ground there. Every single dollar spent in the economy "plays some part" in everything else done within the economy.

Like I said, the abortion debate is completely irrelevant in the discussion of federal funding for PP. If they want to defund them because they don't think the government should be subsidizing women's health procedures and birth control, then come at it from that angle. But abortions are just a smoke screen that has no place in the debate.

If you're defining a fetus as a human being, entitled to all the rights of a human being, then you're faced with an impossible moral dilemma: either you have to deny the fetus its rights, or you have to deny the mother her rights.

I can understand the impulse to protect the one in that equation that can't speak for itself, but I can't share it. I know the mother is a human being; I'm not as sure about the fetus. So I have to side with protecting her actual rights, rather than the theoretical rights of the fetus.
Jesus, I'm pro-choice but this is a horrible argument.

The mother has a right to take a life?   Now, of course, "a life" has be to defined but once you've defined it, I don't think the mother has any right at all to determine life/death.

As long as PP accepts federal funds and pays for abortion procedures, I think it does.
4/12/2011 6:48 PM
How so?

What other perfectly legal activities are you willing to blacklist anyone who receives federal funding from participating in?

As for your other comment, I skipped over the off-topic pro-choice/pro-life debate. And I'll read and respond any way I see fit, thank you very much.

Pro-Life indivduals are not "Black listing". They are asking that orginizations that commit acts that they find offensive not be funded by the government.

Every single dollar that the Federal Government spends is subject to the same debate.

If enough people opposed the military we would defund it.

This is just another piece of the pie. They want this and we want this and we debate the merits.

Of course if you are trying to cut a liberal sacred cow you are branded a narrow minded bigot!

4/12/2011 7:02 PM
Who called anyone a narrow-minded bigot?

Do these "pro-life individuals" realize that if PP were to disappear tomorrow, abortions would likely go up?

So I wouldn't call them narrow-minded, just a little short sighted and perhaps a tad selfish. Any poll you comission is going to show an overwhelming level of support for what PP does on a daily basis. But a small but powerful group of fundamentalist zealots wants THEIR idea of "offensive" to be the policy of the federal government? That's some fuckin' nerve, let me tell 'ya.

http://www.lifenews.com/2011/01/28/poll-60-of-americans-want-to-stop-abortions-or-limit-them/

In Reality if the topic is Abortion Americans want it banned or limited. This is not a small group. Pro-life is as big as any single interest group. And it is committed to the issue.

Lots of Americans would never vote for a pro-choice candidate. Almost none would oppose a pro-life candidate on that issue alone.

But that poll only strengthens the argument FOR Planned Parenthood. They prevent a lot more abortions than they perform.

That is documentable. No one can know how many unwanted babies are prevented by PP. And They do a  lot of Abortions each year.
4/12/2011 7:34 PM
Abortions count for about 3% of everything they do. Even if you're pro-life, an objective look at what they do would show that the "good" would far outweigh the "bad".

PP prevents unwanted pregnancies. And provides women's health to low income populations that have no other options. THAT is what is important about the organization, not the small number of abortions that they perform.

Planned Parenthood devotes more than 90 percent of its resources to providing abortion.*

That 3% number isnt really valid. Abortions are a main part of their business.

PP is the largest single abortion provider in America. They performed over 324,000 abortions last year. If you figure that times the avarage cost of an abortion you get about 15% of PPs total budget.

Remember this isnt part of the government. This is an independent orginization. We fund about 1/3 of their budget,

There are people that would like to see other things done with that money.
