Defacto evals - to curb our ravenous appetites
1) sixernuggets (1) - Wilt Chamberlain, Dirk Nowitzki, Brent Barry, Mark Jackson, Jamaal Wilkes, Norm Nixon, Caldwell Jones
poor sixer forgot to draft a 3rd board man to support jones and wilt, which is a common mistake among owners. wilt is great, but he's not super great (no one is). on the other hand, this team can light up a scoreboard since there are 2 highly capable dishmen in jackson and nixon. even barry gives up the rock enough. of course, so much depends on what wilt version sixer is using. i'm pretty sure the 30% usage version of dirk would be used (why would u use any other version?). i like the wilkes choice in the 5th. he brings def, some boards, and occasionally, some 3's. again, what version will you be using? jones plays def but fouls a bunch. his board %'s are not too bad. this team lacks high definition, meaning, there aren't the correct role players surrounding wilt. you'll hit from the outside, but when wilt or dirk have off nights, and they will, there's no one else. little depth.questionable boards. wilkes at the 3 and barry at the 2 i assume. moderately weak. grade - C
2) jethroeg - Moses Malone, Kevin McHale, Maurice Cheeks, Gus Johnson, Fat Lever, Brian Taylor, Stromile Swift
moses and mchale. wow! hoping to see jethroe make a move for a nater, or boerwinkle, or some other high dreb% guy in the 3rd, but j-man drafts mo cheeks? ok, i can understand drafting a pg in the 3rd, the top tier pg's are quickly evaporating, but cheeks. his efg% is off the charts, and he steals the ball, but his ast% is low, even if the stats show 9.1ppg, and of course, he doesn't make 3's or shoot fta's. 90 def is nice. but then, gus johnson? a fouling machine and low efg%. this is a 52 mil league. gus will be going up against hawks and sharks each game. yeah, he boards, and plays def, but so do soooo many others in this league. i love brian taylor! he is always overlooked in the draft leagues. great %'s and def (both 80 versions at least). i don't even want to talk about fat lever or stromile swift. i would start the 5.7 mil version of taylor, and draft the 4 mil version of cheeks where he makes 65-3's. that would give you 65+75 = 140 3's from the no. 1 slot. i would find a lesser version of fat, and draft a 3 mil scrub with better efg at the no.2. i think you will have enough boards with your big men so a fat reduction can be had. Grade - C-
3) jakotay - Michael Jordan, Swen Nater, Tyson Chandler, Grant Hill, Chris Mullin ---- -----
hard to evaluate a partial team, but the first three picks were almost genius. low usage, high dreb big men to get the ball back into mj's hands... but wait, also into mullin's and hill's hands too. one, but not both as 2nd scorers. jordan needs a scoring teammate to make better. still, there are ways to make this starting 5 work, and having mj, nater and tyson is a formidable trio. b ut wait, i do not see a true point guard on this team, unless coley plans on using mj there, and there is only 1 version of mj that playes pg (8 board, 8 dime version, right?) that's hurting mj. he needs to be dished too, not do the dishing. ah, grant hill... well, 20 ast% is not enough for the likes of mj. i don't see this squad doing much. Grade - C
4) sixernuggets (2) - Bill Russell, Steve Nash, Wesley Person, Alex English, Dan Issel, Michael Adams, TR Dunn
sixers 2nd team. russell first in a 52 mil league? really? then nash 2nd? then wesley person 3rd? you must have had 51 mil left after those first 3 selections. then alex english? didn't you build a team similar to this one before, sixer? what is your love affair with english? then dan issel? another head scratcher. sixer, in a 52 mil league, you get an extra 10 mil to speand, which means, you either find partial seasons that are intensely insane (like the 2200 min version of vinsanity), or you go for balance, which means you try to include def, efg%, dreb%, t.o.'s, ft% etc. anything to gain an extra possession or two with your picks. issel and english do not cut the mustard. Michael Adams is such a ho-hum back-up to nash. you should be trying to recreate the starters numbers when choosing a back. has adams ever made a three before? and though i like tr dunn, he does not ian any shape or form, imitate person's game. by the way, who's gonna help russell board? issel? english? Grade - D (sorry, man)
5) katernberg - LeBron James, Gerald Wallace, Mel Daniels, Charles Oakley, Charlie Ward, Eddie Jones, Martin Gortat
good god do i love the guards on this team. i almost drafted eddie jones. love that 16.9 ppg version (143-3's), and i lopve charlie ward and of course, gerald wallace. whether these guys back up lebron, or play alongside him, they will all evevate lebron's game (which in itself is frightening as hell), and guess what, mell daniels becomes a very potent no 2. scorer on this squad who boards like a fiend. oakley does not get pushed around in 52 million leagues, and he has a 28% dreb to go along with a 70 def rating. this is a strong club. i love marcin gortat's 1.6 mil season. high board % and a 69 def. other than daniels, this is a nice def team with scoring punch, lots of dimes, boards, 3's, fta's and steals. i don't know about you guys, but i don't see a weakness here. Grade A-
6) banditone - David Robinson, Clyde Drexler, Larry Nance, Chris Webber, Toni Kukoc, Paul Westphal, Archie Clark
i have a love-hate relationship with this team. robinson at no. 6 is perfect. imo, other than wilt, drob is the perfect 52 mil league center. great %'s, def, ft%, blks, steals, fta's and def. amazing player. tremendous value for 10 mil. and if you want to go with that intense season (2400 mins), it is unparalled. then bandi drafts drexler (which i think he should always go in the 2nd round, but rarely does) who is a very nice sg with his boards and dimes and 3's. in this league, he is more valuable than mcgrady, pierce, and vinsanity. nance is lovely at sf. wow, such a great 3-man start! what? who? webber? good god, NOOO! he will be poison to drob and clyde. get rid of him! love kukoc. 3's, dimes, some boards, good, all around back-up to someone. westphal is a perfect pg with scoring punch and def (73 def). gives this team 3 legit scorers (if u forget webber). archie clark is a bag of dirt and should be sprinkled in a dog park. this team has a solid core with drob, drex, nance, and westphal and a good back-up. it's not too late to right the ship. Grade - B
7) bluenote75 - Dennis Rodman, Paul Pierce, Amare Stoudamire, Joel Pryzbilla, Derek Harper, Jamaal Tinsley, Andris Biedrins
this is one of those teams that is hard to put a handle on (i do not like "the truth" in a 52 mil league). pierce and amare team up from the outside and the inside for solid scoring. the worm and pryz, and underrated biedrins could perhaps provide enough boards (%-wise, yes, but total boards- no!). derek harper is a great odl player, but a so-so player in the 52 mil group. i like tinsley alot, but he'll be a backup. maybe get more tinsley into the line-up and less harper. but any reduced season for harper, and the guy turns into a brick layer at the free throw line. i have to go back to pierce. wish blue had drafted a more efficient scorer than pierce. this team would be quite good and balanced. as it is, it's gonna struggle to make the playoffs. it will be a no. 12 seed. Grade B-
8) xxevilivexx (1) - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Donyell Marshall, Mookie Blaylock, Kirk Hinrich, Sidney Moncrief, Detlef Schrempf, Jon Koncak
the "experiment", i assume, does not applie to this squad. it can't because i don't see anything startling or shocking (like eaton and bol down low). however, drafting moncrief (which i love) will not offset the defiency in rebounds on this squad. i think marshall underperforms a lot in a 52 mil league and won't achieve his rl board numbers, though he will make more than his 130-3's, hinrich and mookie both shoot so many 3's, combined with marhsall and detlef, this is a +3 perimeter setting on your def settings, however, there is jabbar, so you can't set the def to that setting. koncak was an interesting choice to play alongside jabbar. low usage, and has some decent board numbers. is it enough? i would think evil would have been better off finding a huge oreb guy to gather in all those 3-pt bricks mookie and hinrich shoot. but the dimes are good, the usage is balanced and the def is strong. i am still worried about boards. depends on how koncak plays. i will give him the benefit of the doubt. Grade - B+
9) sappy - Charles Barkley, Ray Allen, Buck Williams, Andrei Kirilenko, Kevin Johnson, Clifford Ray, Alonzo Mourning
i'm confused a little here. barkley, allen, buck and ray make perfect sense to me, especially if you are drafting guys with low defense, because their efficiency is off the charts. nice. but then you draft KJ, who is neither a stalwart in efficiency, nor plays any def. he dimes up, and one version he can shoot 89-3's, but he doesn't fit the symmetry you created with the other 4 (love clifford ray's 54% fg season). was kirilenko an attempt at drafting some def? perhaps that one season of his where he shoots 50% and 36% from the arc would help, but i don't see AK47 really helping this squad. ya gotta play alonzo at pf and back up barkley because his %'s imitate barkley's a little. but sir charles should have been saved for the no.3 slot, but AK47 took that away from him. like i said, i am a bit confused her.
