in a basketball mood while im waiting for my Sixers to hopefully keep their crazy season going so i busted out some evals since ash was slacking....thanks to malone for doing the team comps or i probably wouldnt have done any evals
ljemd - LeBron James, Reggie Miller, Wes Unseld, Lamar Odom, Bill Bridges, Daniel Gibson, Theo Ratliff
I'm not usually a fan of LeBron at PG because I prefer to add more 3s and assists next to him, but it definitely works with this squad. Miller gives you plenty of 3s and you have great passing from the frontcourt guys. I was ****** you took Bridges before I could take him as my SF, his best position, although he is still a fine PF. I like Unseld but I don't see how he gets picked ahead of Parish. Both have weak defense but Parish gives you amazing paint scoring, which I think was needed on this team. LeBron and Miller are a great 1-2 scoring punch and you are solid on the boards. Overall a really nice squad.
ncih - Dennis Rodman, Swen Nater, Tracy McGrady, Walt Bellamy, David Wesley, Bob Sura, Michael Ruffin
Great steal getting McGrady in the 3rd. Anytime you draft Rodman you need to scoop up your go to guy with your 2nd or 3rd pick and McGrady was a nice surprise I'm sure. I would of liked to see you take advantage of Rodman even further by getting a better 2nd scorer than Bellamy. With Rodman, you could have drafted McHale, Amare, or McAdoo instead on Nater and then picked up some low usage boarders later on. I haven't seen Wesley used all that much but after checking out his top two seasons he seems to have really nice value. But since Wesley doesn't rebound(and with Rodman, you didn't need more boards anyway) why not go after someone with better ast%? I think Calderon would have fit nicely. I'm sure glad you made the Ruffin pick late cause I use that guy on just about every team I draft. Usually his 239k season but he has other really nice cheap ones as well.
xxevilivexx (1) - Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, Damon Jones, Mike Miller, Leon Douglas, Kim Hughes, Kirk Hinrich?
I really think the trade kinda backfired on you evil. Erving is a nice player(better in 52 imo) but he's not worth trading up for to pair with Wilt. You could have a stronger team if you stayed in your original spot. McGrady was just sitting there or you could have had an insane efg% front line of Wilt/Amare/McHale. Erving also has a ton of value when you play him at SG because of the boards but it looks like he will play SF for you. Douglas and Hughes stink. If you picked them just to go from 19000 mins to 19680 mins I think that's a mistake. Having your guys 100% all year is overrated. Damon Jones was a nice pick. Everything about him fits perfectly with Wilt.
xxevilivexx (2) - Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Mel Daniels, Brent Barry, Dana Barros, Mark Landsberger, Nate McMillian, Sidney Wicks
I loved every single pick up until Wicks. Haven't seen him much in draft leagues and his numbers are pretty solid for a SF but I didn't think you needed or wanted his usage. Kareem is obviously the top dog and I liked Barros/Daniels/Barry all getting theirs behind him. Wicks isn't as good offensively as any of them, yet will probably take just as many shots. I think Barry is your lowest usage starter. You never want your 61% efg guy eating last at the table. Nate/Landsberger were great backup picks. Rebounding is good - the Daniels pick was key there, good job not passing on him. The inside-out game with Kareem and Barros/Barry should be devastating. Expect a big season from Kareem. Like 32/12/4 top 5 MVP big.
tricky24 - Michael Jordan, Shawn Kemp, Gerald Wallace, Joakim Noah, Mark Jackson, Chris Kaman, Jeff Hornacek
Yikes. What the hell is Chris Kaman doing here? Not a fan of his at all. Decent scorer, underrated(at least for one of his season) rebounder but classic sim underachiever. Kinda like Kevin Willis. I don't understand Hornacek either. With Jordan and Wallace, you have the option of spreading their minutes out between the 1/2/3. I think Jackson was a perfect pick there(if you use one of his really nice 2000 min seasons). But Hornacek forces Jordan to play some minutes at SF(usually never good) and you lose the rebound advantage that Jordan gave you at the 1 and Wallace gave you at the 2. Some really nice talent on the team and Jordan can carry any squad but I just don't think everything fits together here.
theyard2 - Dwight Howard, Donyell Marshall, Robert Parish, Wesley Person, Rajon Rondo, Matt Bonner, Anderson Varejao
Wow. This was a great draft. Dwight is a great big man to build around - that was a no brainer. But the next two picks really made this team. Marshall is a rare talent who can rebound like a SF and shoot 3s like a SG. He also doesn't turn it over and plays great defense at a nice price. He should never make it out of the second round. Parish is a total beast who's only real weakness(defense) gets covered up by Howard. I don't really remember Wesley Person ever being a good defender but the sim seems to think he is so he has amazing 4th round value as a bomber who can also play D. Since Person and Marshall shoot a good amount of 3s you were able to grab one of the really good PGs that get passed up because they don't shoot 3s. Rondo should be right up there in APG. The only problem I see a lack of FTAs. Howard is the only one who gets to the line and he obviously doesn't shoot it well. It might be tough to close games out if he or Rondo has to make clutch FTs down the stretch.
jethroeg - Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams, Buck Williams, Spencer Haywood, Latrell Sprewell, Sedale Threatt, Tom Burleson
I don't think you fully understand usage yet jethro. Ash has a great thread about it you should read sometime. You don't need to be as scientific about it as he and others are(I've actually never added up my teams usage ever) but you need to know the basics. Just as in real life, you can't have 5 guys shooting every time down the court. Too much usage can be bad thing. You should be a beast on the boards and the defense is very good but the offense is going to be ugly. Sprewell might choke you out by midseason.
malone9975 - Charles Barkley, Ray Allen, Pau Gasol, Samuel Dalembert, Darrell Walker, Jannero Pargo, Jerome Williams
Junkyard dog used to be one of favorite guys before the sim chopped his defensive balls off. He still has good value in the ODL though, so it was nice to see him get some run. He teams up with Sammy and Pau(quickly moving up draft boards - and rightfully so) to form a really nice frontcourt trio. Personally I wouldn't have went with Walker since you didn't seem to really need his boards and could have used another 3pt shooter. But you can never have enough boards and he does have really good A/T ratio. But let's be real....we know what this team is all about. The amazing inside-out combo of Barkley and Allen. It doesn't get much better than that. Those two alone almost make any ODL team playoff bound. Nice job with the usage around them.
dh555 - Moses Malone, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Johnson, Andre Igoudala, Steve Novak, Paul Silas, Larry Smith
I thought I could have done a much better job building around Moses but I've wanted to use Dirk for awhile now and this was my first real opportunity to build a winner with him. The Moses/Dirk/KJ trio should be killing teams from the foul line and with Novak(reached for him and his 1200 mins in the 5th but whatever I really wanted him) I have a good amount of 3s. My man Iggy was a nice fit in the backcourt although he really should have a 90+ defense. The Silas/Smith SF combo isn't pretty but they were what the team needed. Not one of my better draft teams but I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run in Dirk/Moses/KJ shines like I hope they do.
98average - Shaquille O'Neal, Marcus Camby, Kevin McHale, Derek Harper, Doug Christie, Kyle Korver, Chris Gatling
Ughh...that's not even fair. You can't let an owner like 98 get a steal like McHale in the 3rd - especially when they already have Shaq. I've had that combo before in the bowis draft and it was amazing. Camby is the perfect PF to have between them. Harper is a little low on ast% but the rest of the team all pass so that's not a big deal. He's also a nice 3rd scorer which allowed you to take a low usage defensive minded bomber like Christie at SG. Korver adds the 3s off the bench and Gatling backs up Shaq with his awesome scoring. 98 has his usual great defensive team but this time he has legit scoring with Shaq/McHale. Scary stuff.
sappy - David Robinson, Kobe Bryant, Marques Johnson, Zelmo Beaty, Jose Calderon, Muggsy Bogues, Brendan Haywood
I always kinda like your teams sappy but they always just feel a little off one way or another. I know it's tough to pass on Kobe when he slides that far in the 2nd but when you have DRob you want him being the highest usage guy on the team to take advantage of his 55% shooting and FTAs. Still, it's not like having Kobe as your #1 is a bad thing, he's a beast from the line as well. Marques and Zelmo are both good rebounders who can also score quite nicely. But really, when you have DRob and Kobe, do you even need any more scoring? Love the Calderon/Muggsy PG combo. That's what you needed from the PG spot. I wouldn't be shocked to see this team be one of your better ones sappy and really make a run but I have a feeling it will end up like most of your squads, a borderline playoff team.
robocoach - Tim Duncan, Gary Payton, Troy Murphy, Cedric Maxwell, Alvin Robertson, Antawn Jamison, Rodrigo Beaubois
Ughh...I don't even wanna do this one. I usually never like your teams robo. Usually because you have Jamison on them and I don't care for him and his high usage. Also you seem to always have guys I consider SFs playing PF. This time it looks to be Maxwell(or Jamison). Of course, it usually works for you since you always seem to load up on rebounding guards(hello Alvin Robertson). You seem to be short on offensive rebounds too which I would think would be needed with Payton/Murpgy/Jamison bombing away. You also buried Maxwell and his FTAs with 4 guys having higher usage. Your top 3 usage guys are all sub-par at getting to the line(another reason I dislike Jamison). In conclusion, 50+ wins.
scudmissle - Dwyane Wade, Shawn Marion, Walt Frazier, Bobby Jones, Tree Rollins, Toni Kukoc, Clyde Lee
Hmmm I wonder what scud was going for this time? I love Wade on defense first squads. He's probably the best defensive guard and his high usage allows you to grab lower usage defensive specialists later. Jones was great value in the 4th but you already had Marion to play SF so that means you will be kinda weak on boards at PF. Wade and Frazier make up for that some but Clyde Lee isn't a great rebounder and Rollins isn't a full time player. You shouldn't be bad on the boards but as a defense first team I'm not sure you can afford to lose that battle. Offense will go as far as Wade takes them and Marion/Frazier are very solid 2/3 options. Obviously you're weak on 3s. I'm not quite sure what to make of this team - never been too good at judging teams that draft defense first. I'm also curious to see if you run uptempo or half-court.
ginandjuice - Kevin Durant, Tom Boerwinkle, Ryan Anderson, Terry Porter, Clifford Ray, Brent Price, Jeff Ruland
I can't wait to see what your two 11-12 players do in this league. Both should be great. Also very curious to see how Ruland does. I don't really remember seeing him in the ODL before. Great paint scorer but it's tough tot take on all those fouls and turnovers especially when you already are behind in that department with Boerwinkle/Ray. Porter is an absolute steal in the 4th. He and Durant are a sick backcourt. Price is an awesome backup as well. The defense isn't great but it's not terrible either. You should be able to outscore teams on most nights. I think the turnovers and fouls are what's going to kill you in the end.
tarheel1991 - Magic Johnson, Andrew Bynum, Clyde Drexler, Emeka Okafor, Rashard Lewis, Kenneth Faried, Jerry West
Again, you can't let an owner like tarheel get a guy like Drexler that late in the 3rd. He should be late 2nd/early 3rd every time. What doesn't he do well from the 2 guard? That's a scary good backcourt. Not sure how West fits in but I doubt you're using one of his higher minute seasons. I've been a huge fan of using Bynum as a backup and can't wait to use him as a full time starter now. 2nd round feels right to me for him. And how about that Wilt-like fp48? Insane. Okafor is as solid as they come as a big man and Faried is going to be everyone's favorite backup SF. I don't see any backups for Bynum and Okafor which makes me wonder if you're gonna go small and play West/Lewis more minutes then I originally thought. I don't care much for that strategy although that would give you more 3s. Oh, and a belated congrats on the marriage tarheel. I see the new wifey hasn't affected your draft game much, another solid team.
ashamael - Karl Malone, Tyson Chandler, Steve Nash, Horace Grant, Brandon Rush, Charlie Ward, Mike Dunleavy Jr.
To steal a line from...well you...holy efg% batman! The Nash to Malone combo should wreak havoc on the league. And to make things worse, Ho Grant someone made it out of the 3rd round and onto this squad....unfair. Chandler and Ward are gonna do what they do and Rush is a nice new low usage, good defense, SG bomber. Obviously Chandler is gonna need some more help on the boards but you have plenty of minutes still to fill in the frontcourt. Only problem I see is if Malone has an off day who besides Nash is gonna pick up the scoring slack? It shouldn't matter too much. I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat from ash.
garyman - Jason Kidd, Bill Walton, Manu Ginobili, Serge Ibaka, Erick Dampier, Tony Parker, Joel Przybilla
Some really good support guys here. Kidd is the best support PG in the draft and Przybilla/Dampier is the perfect ODL PF combo with some extra minutes to back up Walton. Ibaka is another 11-12 player who will be a draft regular with his defense and rebounding at SF. Manu is a stud, great to have as your highest usage guy. The problem is that Walton and Ginobili don't play heavy minutes so you really needed to get more scoring. Tony Parker was not the answer imo. I didn't understand that pick. You didn't need his assists and he doesnt shoot 3s or rebound or play defense. You have a lot of great pieces but Manu can't handle the scoring load by himself. I think this team will go as far as Parker can take them - which probably will be no farther than a first round exit.
ncmusician_7 - Ben Wallace, Scottie Pippen, Mookie Blaylock, Carlos Boozer, A.C. Green, Dan Gadzuric, Terry Dehere
This is Pippen's big chance to show he can hang with the other big time SGs. He's got a underrated paint scorer in Boozer. He's got great rebounding 1-5. Great passing all around. Great defense. Low on turnovers and fouls. Good amount of 3s. And of course....the great Ben Wallace. Pippen is clearly the man in this offense so we'll see if his lack of FTAs(important since as a team you're pretty weak there) hurts you or not. This should be a playoff team no doubt, but can Pippen take them all the way?
coachcroft - Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Fat Lever, Kevin Willis, Raja Bell, Brooks Thompson, Craig Hodges
I'm real high on Bird right now after he led me to a Ncih52 chip. He won me several games down the stretch just by knocking down his free throws to keep the other team from any miracle wins in the last 30 seconds. He also hot a few game winners. Hakeem, as you'll soon learn, is a mistake in the ODL. He just costs to much not be either a dominant paint scorer or a dominant rebounder. Sure he's gonna put up great numbers(was 3rd or 4th in MVP last season) but he weakens the rest of the team with his salary and fouls a bit too much for someone you are counting on to play 40 a night. Willis is so blehhh I don't wanna spend another sentence on him. Lever works with Bell and Bird. Nice pick there. Could be a good squad but I think Willis and Hakeem are the eventual downfall.
banditone - Paul Pierce, Kevin Love, Bob McAdoo, Chris Webber, B.J. Armstrong, Billy Knght, Walter Berry
banditone(hmm am i the only one who pronounces it as bandit tone in their head and not bandit one?) always puts out a wild squad that you think has no chance to mesh and every once in awhile they actually do. I don't think this will be one of those teams. The first three picks were great. You didn't need any more usage after that(Love should never be lower than 3rd in usage - hes too good at the line) and had plenty of boards and two good defenders. Webber(if you use the right season) is an ok pick but you didn't need his usage and the extra turnovers he brings. You were better off having a low usage rebounding SF. B.J. Armstrong? Not the assist heavy PG you wanted with that pick. And I have no idea what Knight or Berry are doing here. That being said, I look forward to losing against you and then questioning whether or not the "-3 and double the best per threat" defense actually works or not.
mikee1 - Artis Gilmore, Chris Paul, Amare Stoudemire, Charles Oakley, Michael Redd, Dennis Scott, Carmelo Anthony
Ewwww...there's that Gilmore/CP3 combo again...so very nasty. Then you went and added my man Amare? Then backed him up with Oakley at SF? Then added Redd and Scott for 3pt shooting? Then stole the best 12 min offensive threat off the bench from everyone that wanted to use him to back up their scoring star? Wow, I'm not sure if that's too much usage or not in the starting 5(think it'll be ok) but that offense if going to obliterate teams. CP3 might average 20 dimes a game(not really but 15 isn't out of the question). I love a good offensive team with plenty of paint/3pt scoring a a PG like CP3 to get them the ball. If you rebound and play enough defense(both looks pretty solid) I don't see how this team doesn't contend.
eleibowitz - Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Elton Brand, Peja Stojakovic, Kris Humphries, Daequan Cook, Olden Polynice
I feel like Russell has even more value in the ODL since he has so many seasons(including the ultra cheap 68-69 season) you can use. Id take him 3rd over any other lower usage big man after Rodman and Big Ben. Brand and Peja fell a lot farther than they should have. Humphries too. That's a really solid starting 5. Awesome rebounding. Oscar/Peja/Brand can carry a scoring load and Russell really helps Oscar with the dimes. Cook and Polynice are cheap backups with one single good skill. That's exactly what you want from a backup in the ODL. Not the sexiest of teams out there but you can be sure to see them in the playoffs making noise.
bluenote75 - Jerry Lucas, Chauncey Billups, Larry Nance, James Harden, Jason Terry, Brad Daugherty, Otis Thorpe
Well Billups is on the team so I already love it. Then you have Harden and Terry(who mikee proved last odl is kinda a stud) to round out the backcourt rotation. That's a crazy trio of 3 point shooting with plenty of dimes and two guys(harden, billups) who live at the line. However, they are pretty weak on the boards. Lucas is a beast who dominates the glass, defense being his only weakness. Nance is actually not that great of a rebounding SF but you gotta love his high fg% scoring, low turnovers, and of course great defense. Even without a true #1 scorer I think this squad would have worked out nicely if you covered up your biggest weakness(rebounding) in the 6/7th round. Daugherty? Sure he's a great offensive player but you needed rebounds(and defense if you could) much much more. Thorpe is solid as a SF but I think you are playing him at PF where he's below average as a rebounder. I like this team a lot offensively but rebounds and interior defense are going to hurt you.
ncih (1) - John Stockton, Dikembe Mutombo, Bob Lanier, Anfernee Hardaway, Josh Smith, Greg Anthony, Andris Biedrins
It's always tough when you take two support players at the end/beginning of round 1/2 to find elite scorers later on. The best ones are all gone by the early third usually. That's not a strategy I personally like taking. I feel like good support guys are easier to find later than good scorers. Of course support guys don't get much better than Stockton and Mutombo. And you got a really solid 1/2 punch in Penny and Lanier. Smith is a very good SF who I'm surprised doesn't go higher. Overall you have good scoring balance(Stockton should get his shots, alwyas nice - he made 180 3s at 55% for my last 52 team), solid on the boards, and are great at defense. Two guards who steal it a ton and 2 forwards and a center who block a ton of shots. Should be one of the best defensive teams in the league. If Penny and Lanier have good seasons you should go far.
