I don't get it..  The guy is on here trying to help some players out and some people go out and bash him for it.  Some people are never happy....
Looks like he's trying to help his wallet out.
+1, if he really wanted to help people out, he'd make it free, or at least give it to those who thinks are most deserving...I don't take exception with the "tool" (which I find to be rather pointless/worthless), I take exception with the fact that he's charging a $10 "donation" for it...I want to challenge everyone that buys this thing in non-con...suckers.
Because putting hard work into something and asking for a small donation for the service(for a game he doesn't even play mind you) is a horrible thing, eh colonels?

Many of the "suckers" that are interested in these tools are a lot better at this game than colonels btw. If you don't like it don't buy it, no need to fling poo everywhere.

I'm not much for spreadsheets and will probably continue to eyeball recruits. That said,  please ignore this douche...he takes asshattery to a new level in every thread he posts in.
Asking for a "donation"?  Do you get to use the thing if you don't pay for it?  He's trying to be sneaky with the verbage, you're not buying his "scraper tool", you're "donating" money for his effort and goodwill...that's what I take exception with...the pitch.

And that's why I want people who use this thing to challenge me...we'll see who gets the better recruits and game results as well...friendly competition.  I'm sure there are a fair amount of people out there that agree with me, they just wouldn't say what I would say, or how I would say it...everything is subject to praise AND criticism...

Nobody's trying to be sneaky with anything, and the fact that you can interpret that as trying to be sneaky is ridiculous. The donation makes you eligible to receive the service in return, if not, you can't use it. How is he trying to be sneaky? If you want to continue arguing, you should find a better angle than that one.

Yes some people agree with you in regards to the necessity of the tool, but there's a reason nobody else is calling yatzr out like you are. His product is/will be legitimate, and if you don't want to buy it, like others have said, don't buy it. I don't see myself buying it either, but I respect his efforts 100%. And with the positive feedback his tools have received in GD, he deserves to be respected.

And i don't think the tool is going to by any means make anyone a better recruiter, maybe it will, maybe it won't. But the main thing imho is that with the help of his tool it will save everyone a lot more time. Sometimes it can take me up to an hour just calling guys. With the tool I can sort the players to what i want, discard the scrubs(another main purpose) and be able to call 50 guys at once. That will probably in all keep me under 15 min with the help of this tool. I could probably go even quicker just Im always watching tv while I'm recruiting haha, but anyways the tool will save A LOT of time and no one is forcing you to buy it lol.

I'm a bit surprised HD is allowing him to charge for this and advertise about it on the boards. You can call it a "donation" until you're blue in the face, but it's really a payment for a service. You're more than welcome to pay more for it, but you have to pay (donate) at least $10.

I don't care one way or another on this, honestly. I have a halfway completed tool sitting around in my archives that I once was interested in putting together for people and distributing as open source, but I never had the time to finish it to my liking and it's just gathered dust. So I'd give him a + for the initiative to create it and a - for requiring a donation for it, so it's a wash in my mind.

You have to assume that WIS cares at all about thisproduct to be surprised that they are letting him charge for it.

+1

I don't think they read the boards...

Touché.

The amount Yatzr contributed to GD over the years is astounding, he essentially made many parts of the game more enjoyable and user friendly for everyone. $10 is a small price to pay for all his hard work, and if you guys had a better idea of what his GD tool does, you'd easily drop $10 on it
5/15/2012 5:45 PM
I wouldn't drop $10 on any kind of "recruiting tool", I'd put it towards buying a season of the best college basketball game on the web...I have no need for the Nintendo Glove...

Can someone remind me how to find my Team ID # again?

I only have on GD team, but multiple HD teams and I can't find this #.

Narcotico, I am so glad to see someone else just "eyeballs" recruits and doesn't use spread sheets.  Reading a few of the different threads, I thought I might be the only one left that did that.  Seems to me that we're in a very small minority, but at least I know I'm not the only one.  The "eyeball test" is a pretty easy and quick way to judge a recruit, don't you think?  Pretty damn accurate too, I'd say.
5/15/2012 7:50 PM
I "eyeball," too.  Don't have that time or Excel sophistication to make spreadsheets worthwhile.

That said, seems like this could be a great tool for those who understandits potential.
5/15/2012 7:52 PM
I eyeball... Until I get yatzr's tool.

colonels, right now it is not "free" to HD users, you are right. His GD tools are free (with just a few minor priveledges given to donors) but really the money is used to keep him working and improving. He updates his GD tools every few months, and I'd say only 20% of the users are donors.

If you don't like it, don't get it. I have no problems giving yatzr money, his tools are a one time pay, full time use, all time enjoyment. Thanks again, yatzr.

Again, right now it is only open to donors, but the vast majority of  GD users don't have to donate. Basically, this is a "beta test" of his new tools, and he's just letting his donors have first crack at it.

Wow, this thread got popular.  A couple of quick things:

yoijames is exactly right.  This tool, or any of my tools, will not magically make you better at this game.  That's not what they're for.  They're for saving you time.  Lots of time.

WIS knows about my tools.  Last I heard from them about it, one of the WIS employees actually uses the GD recruit tool.  Their stance is that it adds more to the game to have the community make stuff like that.

As for the $10 donation thing, 10 is an arbitrary number that was set from when GD users first gave me money before I ever asked for any.  The least any of them gave me was $10.  I wanted to give them back something, so I made new features of the recruit tool be donor only.  The original plan was to make those features be free after awhile, but the donors wanted them to stay donor only.  So now, I build new stuff for the existing donors, and it stays donor only because that's what they, the people who have given me money, want.  They keep giving me money, so I keep building stuff.  I don't make random programs in hopes that people will pay me for it.  I make programs for people that have already given me money.  That used to be limited to GD stuff, but it has now spilled over into HD.  That said, I am planning on making the HD recruit tool similar to the GD recruit tool where it's free, but some features, like mass recruiting and response processing, will be limited to donors.
