question for the commish:  Are the contracts for all seasons played or all seasons by years....For example, if I take a player who played in 1901, missed 1902, and played in 03, 04, 05  etc...., do I have to count 1902 in the contract?  In other words, could I stretch a 5 year contract into 1906 because he didn't play in 1902?

the contracts are based on years.  So in your example, you would need a 6 year contract to get the 1906 year.  IR years DO count in the contract.
