1963 Mickey Lolich - $2,705,646

After having that Weyhing-Powell-Lolich sandwich, it is time to clear the palate and get that taste out of my mouth - we all can't be Calhoop.

Thanks for the jinx, my friend. To paraphrase our fearless leader from earlier today:

"calhoop will be starting all the crappy versions of Banks, Carew & Williams and will have all <300K teammates. LOL"

Young, Cy 1904 Boston Americans 12,445,335

Someone has to pitch some innings decently around here ...

Decent innings? I just need someone to pitch any innings at all. Or, to paraphrase Casey Stengel, if you don't have a pitcher...you have a lot of...actually, you don't have a lot of anything. Anyway, I need a shortstop, because if you don't have a shortstop you have a lot of ground balls through the left side of the infield.

1912 Babe Adams $4,886,289

As an aside, I don't tend to use Babe Adams a lot. Am I going to get "Babe" by Styx stuck in my head every time I see his name? Or is that just now? I'm not sure how I feel about that.

A right handed home run hitter with a relatively low OBP% vs a bunch of deadball pitchers? No thanks.

1970 Ernie Banks $1,297,655

I was recently asked "what happens if your 16 drafted players puts you over the $120M salary cap (before even adding teammates)"? This is an interesting question, as I never thought this would even be possible.

I would say that in the rare event that this is even remotely possible, I would rule as commissioner that as the draft progresses, if I feel that this is a realistic possibility, I would require certain picks to be made at certain points of the draft to prevent this from happening. I will be monitoring this.

That's $7.5M per player (16 players), if you selected the highest salary for every player nominated for V24 the total salary would be $152,024,894 vs $120,000,000. (And that's assuming the $18M Williams was drafted) Unless we have members from United States Senate Committee on the Budget or United States House Committee on the Budget participating in this draft, I don't see how it's possible.
