I'm picking right after joerat and I have to leave for a few hours.

You thought he would make it another 12 picks back to you?

no. but i hoped people would be more interested in getting or staying up the draft board for another round.

The "highest salary drafts first" rule leads to an interesting dynamic. Those drafting at the top want to stay at the top because if they draft cheap, they will most likely have to wait 20+ picks for their next selection. Those drafting at the bottom won't drop too much if they go cheap BUT if they go expensive, they likely cut down the number of picks they have to wait for their next pick.

I know it's the same dynamic when the "lowest salary drafts first", but the main difference is that in general, low salary guys are useless and basically are used to save salary for teammates, while high salary guys drafted early are generally usable guys. The old rule, it was mostly a universal advantage to take all the low salaried guys early. Here, it's a tougher decision... as either option can be defensible depending on your strategy. Just look at me and redcped from the last version. I drafted in the top 2-3 every round, while he drafted last almost every round. Both strategies seem to work, as we're essentially tied for the division lead, early on.

As you can tell by my pick, I felt it was a better advantage to make an expensive pick early this time. I could be mistaken and will find out the hard way soon enough, though.

I feel that in these "highest salary picks first" versions of 16x16, those who jump in quickly to nominate a starting pitcher (especially one with a good $10M+ season and not much else) have a rather sizable advantage right from the start.

Instead of doing nominations on a first come first served basis, I'd like to see nomination order randomized after 16 people sign up.
