Have a draft tonight in one of my worlds and not a lot of time to prep for it.  I have the #9 overall pick.  Will I get a stud regardless of whether I prep? Can you suggest any quick preparation pointers?

No, you might not.   Click the overall button.   Rank the top 10 on the ratings you like.  You should get a player in your top 5.  Overall is imperfect but, for quick and easy, it's close enough to group the best 10 for you to sort out.

Just a follow up - my 2nd round pick is at #75, what is the likelihood that I will find a major leaguer at the slot?

With limited time to prep, virtually nil.   At 75, you probably need to rank 20-30.  Largely depends on the rest of the world.   If you have time to rank the top 25 overalls, do it.  You might get lucky.
