I think players fail to see their limitations as they age.   They think they've earned the right to be everyday players even if their stats/skills suggest it's not such a good idea.   That's why so many hang on that extra year(or three if someone will let them).   It's hard to walk away.

i think i've asked a similar question like this before, but with even more of a logjam of players this season, does scoscia have the balls to bench wells if another fielding candidate is outplaying him?

I think he does and I think the front office would back him.    They've said, thru their actions, "We're here to win."  If Wells isn't contributing, he has no place on the field.  Otherwise, throwing money at Pujols and Wilson was just plain stupid.

not only that, but acquiring wells in the first place was because of one of the stupidest gm's evar, reagins. not current stud dipoto, correct? they're saying 'we dont need to use the crap you picked up just cause he's getting paid a ton'

so when a person has low advanced scouting, that means they overrate both other people's players and their own, correct? or is it just their own? and i'm talking about projections, not current ratings.

I haven't really looked at the minor league system but the record indicates a tankjob to acquire high draft picks.    That may not be the case but the steady drop in wins/payroll is a telling sign of what someone is doing.
