This is correct - must take a <$300K player from a franchise that you still need (at the same position). This isn't that big a penalty, especially if you are simply replacing a bench player.

But you also get penalized $100M in salary, which purposely bumps you to the NL East.

Totally missed that clones were allowed this time around. That could've changed things. That should probably be called out more in the description next time.

I'm aware it's mentioned, and that's on me for not playing closer attention to those details. But usually rule changes from previous versions are highlighted in the text write-up for the league.
