Montreal Spectres Fan Club 1990- Topic

Game 103: Greg Maddux has struggles a bit this season but finds some of the old magic in the series opener against Montreal, throwing seven shutout innings. Ellis Burks hits two homers, Mike Fetters adds two blank frames of his own, and the Cthulu win 7-0.

Game 104: Rodrigo Lopez strikes out eight Spectres in seven scoreless innings and gets his 13th win as the Cthulu edge Montreal 3-1.

Game 105: Carlos Delgado hits two home runs, and Wendell Magee and Bret Boone each hit one, as the Spectres finally beat St. Louis, winning the series finale 9-4.

The Spectres head west to face the hated 69ers.

Game 106: Carlos Delgado hits another home run and adds two singles and two walks as the Spectres rough up Mark Buehrle and beat the Niners 7-3 to open the series.

Game 107: Ramon Castro hits two solo home runs and Tomo Ohka wins his 14th game as the Spectres edge the Niners 4-3 to take the first two games of the series.

Game 108: Montreal scores a second straight 4-3 win over Frisco, scoring three in the sixth and getting great work from the bullpen. Eddie Guardado pitches a perfect ninth for his 31st save.

Back home to host Chicago next.

Game 109: Derek Lowe is brilliant, Omar Daal is mediocre, and thre result is a 6-0 Bootlegger win in the opener of the homestand.

Game 110: Dave Burba faces five batters in the fourth inning; they all score. Montreal does nothing at the plate themselves and loses 5-0.

Game 111: Chicago again puts up a ton of runs early (leading 7-1 after three) but this time the Spectres battle back. They take an 8-7 lead in the sixth but Chipper Jones leads off the seventh with a home run to tie it. With two down in the ninth, Carl Crawford doubles. After Ramon Castro is walked, Ruben Sierra pinch hits for the pitcher; he rips a double to right center and the Spectres salvage the finale, 9-8.

We head to Houston, where the season is already over (30-81).

Game 112: Tomo Ohka pitches well but is outdone by Paul Wilson and the Spectres are upset by Houston, 3-1. Ramon Castro's homer provides Montreal's only scoring.

Game 113: Chuck Finley pitches seven scoreless innings and the Spectres shut out the Lone Stars 2-0.

Game 114: Wendell Magee and Denny Hocking, batting 1-2 in the order, combine for five hits and four runs as the Spectres take the series with a 7-3 win.

Montreal will host Milwaukee (76-38) next.

Game 115: The Krauts break things open with a five-run seventh against Mike Remlinger and Milwaukee strands four baserunners in the eighth and ninth, dropping the opener 10-5.

Game 116: Game Two sees some big rallies late, with Montreal's two-run ninth deciding it 6-5 in the Spectres' favor. Wendell Magee and Denny Hocking deliver RBI hits in the final frame.

Game 117: Montreal gets another walkoff win to take the series, answering Nick Johnson's 10th-inning homer with two in the bottom half, Denny Hocking providing the winning hit for the second straight game. Final score is 3-2 Montreal.

The Spectres begin the third round of divisional play with a trip to Philadelphia.

Game 118: The Spectres allow four in the first but bounce back with three in each of the next two innings and hold on for an 8-5 win in the opener.

Game 119: Philly has another big inning, with four in the second, and this time the Spectres don't bounce back, dropping a 7-5 decision.

Game 120: Melvin Mora drives in three runs and Carlos Delgado hits a two-run homer as the Spectres take the series with a 6-3 win; Dave Burba evens his record at 9-9.

We head to New York to face the Cosmos.

Game 121: Montreal puts four crooked innings on the board and gets home runs from Carl Crawford and Geoff Jenkins as they hold off the Cosmos, 15-9. Mike Remlinger throws two scoreless innings of relief to pick up his seventh win.

Game 122: Ken Griffey Jr. and Michael Cuddyer each hit homers and drive in three runs to help the Spectres overcome a shaky start by Tomo Ohka and beat the Cosmos 8-6. Ohka improves to 15-4.

Game 123: Montreal takes its time getting on the board, but does so with a flourish, scoring four times in the ninth to beat New York 4-1. Six scoreless innings by Chuck Finley are unrewarded with a win, but Eddie Guardado picks up his 36th save.

The Spectres will host Pittsburgh to finish out this round of divisional play.

Game 124: Pittsburgh starter Frank Castillo enters the game at 3-10 but makes short work of the Spectre lineup, having some problems with Melvin Mora (two doubles) but none with his teammates. Pittsburgh takes the opener, 5-3.

Game 125: Pittsburgh scores four in the first and builds a 5-0 lead, but the Spectres come back to tie the score in the eighth. The Melons pull back in front in the ninth on a single by Magglio Ordonez. After two one-out singles in the bottom half, Shawn Chacon comes in to relieve for the Melons. Bret Boone greets him with a three-run homer. Spectres win, 8-6.

Game 126: Joe Kennedy allows five runs in the second and the Melons add four more in the ninth to cap an 11-4 win over the Spectres.

Montreal heads to Cincinnati to face the Stingers.

Game 127: Ruben Sierra hits a tie-breaking home run in the eighth and the Spectre bullpen throws 3.2 scoreless innings as Montreal takes the opener in Cincy, 4-3.

Game 128: Chuck Finley stirkes out eight in eight shutout innings and prospect Roderick Stier clubs a three-run home run as the Spectres blank the Stingers, 5-0.

Game 129: Cincinnati avoids a sweep, getting two hits and two RBI from starting pitcher Pedro Astacio in a 5-4 win over the Spectres.

Montreal returns home to face San Diego.

Game 130: Roderick Stier hits his second home run in three games and the Spectres win a slugfest with San Diego, 9-7. Eddie Guardado allows a run in the ninth but emerges with his 39th save.

Game 131: The Spectres get only six hits and make it a close game only by virtue of Ken Griffey Jr.'s pinch-hit, bases-loaded double. San Diego wins, 7-5.

Game 132: The Spectres drop a second straight decision to San Diego, with Alex Rodriguez' grand slam providing the winning runs in a 5-3 decision.

Montreal now hosts Los Angeles, who leads the West by 15 games.

Game 133: Montreal collects nine hits (all singles) and five walks, but tallies only two runs as the Looters open the series with a 6-2 win.

Game 134: Los Angeles scores two in the eighth off Jim Brower to erase a 5-3 deficit, then wins it in the 10th with two more. Montreal puts only one batter on base in the ninth and tenth innings, and that courtesy of a Manny Ramirez error.

Game 135: Los Angeles tees off on Dave Burba and Jose Rijo to finish a sweep of the Spectres in emphatic fashion, 13-5. Rijo faces five batters and retires none of them.

The Spectres leave town for St. Louis to face the Cthulu.

Game 136: Joe Kennedy pitches into the eighth with few problems and the Spectres snap their skid, beating St. Louis 5-2 in the series opener. Mark Bellhorn hits two doubles and drives home two.

Game 137: St. Louis homers twice in the first off Tomo Ohka and holds on for a 5-4 win to even the series.

Game 138: Both teams get 11 hits in the series finale but the final score is very lopsided in St. Louis' favor, 8-1. Greg Maddux evens his record at 10-10 for the Cthulu.

Montreal heads back home and will host San Francisco.

Game 139: Mark Bellhorn homers twice and drives in four runs and Omar Daal throws six scoreless innings to even his record at 11-11 as the Spectres even CC Sabathia's record at 11-11 with an 8-3 victory.

Game 140: Montreal scores four in the first two innings but nothing thereafter; the bullpen fails them and the Niners rally for a 7-4 win. Bret Boone is the goat on offense, stranding six baserunners.

Game 141: Carlos Delgado drives in five runs and Joe Kennedy adds a two-run triple as the Spectres take the series with an 11-4 win.

It's off to Wrigley to face presumptive wild card winner Chicago.

Game 142: Tomo Ohka's late-season swoon continues as he allows 11 hits and four walks in four innings of work, leaving with eight Chicago runs already on the board. Peter Munro fares no better, and the Bootleggers crush Montreal, 12-3.

Game 143: Chicago uses five pitchers to shut down the Spectres, 4-1. Chuck Finley takes the loss for Montreal.

Game 144: Montreal's slide continues as Kelvim Escobar chokes up a three-run lead in the eighth; Chicago wins it in the 10th on a walk-off homer by Eric Hinske off Peter Munro.

The Spectres host Houston next.
