I don't think shopping Seabrook is a necessity. I'd be surprised if he gets near 5 million. The Hawks have built a salary structure with the deals they have in place, with Kane & Toews leading the way followed by Keith and Hossa (No I don't count Campbell in here, lol). I don't think Seabrook should get more than those guys on this team, and with him being an RFA, he won't unless he gets an offer sheet, at which point the team getting him would have to give up a first, second and third round picks in 2011 if they offer between 5 and 6, a steep price for signing Brent Seabrook, as much as I like him.

Not saying I disagree but one thing you left out is he goes to arbitration and is issued $5 mil for 1-yr based on buff and johnson's contracts.

I'm not so sure he even gets 5 at arbitration. Everyone thought Niemi would get a big pay day at arbitration because of Halak and he got 2.75. Johnson and Buff also have produced more offensively thus far, so I think even an arbitrator would put Seabrook at around 4.75.

begs the question:

Will the hawks pay that much?

I'm fairly confident other teams will put out offersheets to Seabrook if he goes RFA... if at the very least just to make the hawks have to pay to keep the guy (like the sharks did with Hjalmarrson last season so they had to give up Niemi).

Hawks have a BIG game tonight. They can not afford to lose to lowly CBJ. I'll be flippin between the chicago and philly games tonight - and between bud light and coors light ;)

I think the Hawks would be ok with paying UP TO 5 million, but not more.

It is indeed a big game tonight, but they all are from here on out.

is this a good game to drop $50 on the Hawks? i  bet them to beat Min but Columbus has won in Chicago recently..not a sure thing but i may gamble again  on the Hawks not quite sure..they definately need to win, ive found the Hawks are a good team  when desperate

good article - 2nd and 4th lines would still be pretty weak imo. goalie weak as well.... but it points out they can afford Seabrook at $5.25 .  The article is banking a lot on leddy, morin, salak, frolik, kruger, etc having good rookie seasons.  Thats a lot of inexperience.  Add on 1st full year players like bickell (29 points this season) and dowell (18 points) which really is not anything to write home about.  Bolland (30 points this season, career high 47).   The more I look at it more the article is right... the hawks can afford these guys.... but can they win with these guys?

Well frolik is not a rookie. But you get the idea.

Moy, I don't understand why you think Crawford sucks.  The guy has been phenomenal and it's not even disputable.

Our young guys, hopefully, will mature in the next couple years and mesh nicely with the core guys who will still be here.  It's the Detroit formula....keep a solid core and keep plugging young guys in and rotating out older guys or guys who are too pricey for you.  Bickell has been very good so far this year and Dowell is a reliable 4th line guy.  Nobody expects them to be stars, just to play a role, which they've both done pretty well.  This team still has a bright future.

For the record, Crawford is currently 3rd in the league in GAA and 7th in save %.  Yeah, we sure are weak in net.

Dudes played what....30 games in his career? Seen hot starts from goalies a million times but will he hold up? Heck - Bobs been great in philly but we are still weak in net.

I'd also like to point out how many times he's allowed teams back in the game after multi-goal leads. He is making some nice saves tonight.... can he make enough to win.
