Richards deserves the Selke, and to be entirely honest he should be a finalist for the Hart trophy as well. I don't know of another player that means more to his team.

Philadelphia Flyers captain Mike Richards will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, according to the Courier-Post.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren told the paper that Richards is expected to miss 10-12 weeks for recovery.

Holmgren added that surgery could be necessary on the shoulder as well, pending the results of an MRI.

24-year-old Richards was leading his team in playoff scoring with five points in six games.

On Tuesday, he was named one of the finalists for the Selke trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward.

Holmgren said wing Simon Gagne (hip), goaltender Antero Niittymaki(hip), center Darroll Powe (hip) and defenseman Randy Jones (hip) also may face offseason surgeries, pending the results of MRIs.

They sure know how to spend, but how are they getting under the cap now? And I hope their prospect pool is good enough to withstand missing two straight first rounders.
