Might be hard to fit his salary this late in the draft because of the things you couldn't plan for.

Perhaps, but you'd think those at the top of the round would have planned for him. I'm certainly not complaining, but even if your high-round teams come later in the draft, you still have an idea of who will be available to you.

We could have taken him, but he was pricey for this cap and his innings. Sure he's worth it, but so are a lot of guys.
We all pass on great guys because they are a little bit more $IP than we want to spend. If you don't you cut somewhere else.
Besides, in these high rounds for us, I'm getting a very good pitcher no matter what.

I wasn't criticizing you, sjh. I was making the point, in general, that no one should lose out on a guy when picking at the top of the round because they didn't have enough money left for him. If you choose to go another direction, that's a totally different reason.

Didn't take it personal. Just talking strategy. Now if I get who I want, my White Sox pick may be very cheap, (though it's a high pick last round). Thanks.

My point was that some people fell to me unexpectedly that shifted my plans repeatedly. If I had been waiting to draft my top two this close to the end, I think I'd have been in some pickles, too. But if I were dead set on someone, then yes I would have saved the money regardless.

I've also drafted a couple players with ~200K seasons available, so if a stud unexpectedly becomes available to me in the final rounds, I'll just downgrade someone I drafted previously.
