STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS 2009-10 Topic

Hawks are done..cant beat CBJ when it counts..take a few more pics of the cup itll be 5o years before you see it again...but no, you dont miss Buff or Ladd or Eager , Burish....keep telling yourself that ..listen to Andru and all his stats about how a 14th place team  really shouldnt be in 14 th place..its not about stats its about chemistry and TEAM ..thats scorers, tough guys ,grinders..pencil pushers like Andru just look at numbers..numbers dont win...you guys lose..no matter how much you deny it , one day you will admit that Buff and Ladd  cost you guys to repeat..character wins championship not numbers..like pencil pushing geeks like Andru will have you beleive

to me this will be the defining moment for the Hawks..being the reigning cup champs you find a way to win this game, no matter what you gut it out..if you cant and the lowly Jackets beat you?, you are done..you lack character ,you will never win the cup again for another 50 years..that being said..if the Hawks win this game ,i give them props and believe they can do it..being a champ..you find a way to beat columbus
oh no you dint

GREAT article about the Hawks cap situation next year.

http://committedindians.com/the-blackhawks-cap-situation-is-not-bad-for-2011-12/

This guy Tab runs the best Hawks blog out there.
good article - 2nd and 4th lines would still be pretty weak imo. goalie weak as well.... but it points out they can afford Seabrook at $5.25 .  The article is banking a lot on leddy, morin, salak, frolik, kruger, etc having good rookie seasons.  Thats a lot of inexperience.  Add on 1st full year players like bickell (29 points this season) and dowell (18 points) which really is not anything to write home about.  Bolland (30 points this season, career high 47).   The more I look at it more the article is right... the hawks can afford these guys.... but can they win with these guys?
again - thinking about this article and whether they can win with these guys next season....

Here is the projected line up from the article:

Kane - Toews - Sharp
Frolik - Kruger - Hossa
Brouwer - Bolland - Morin
Bickell - Dowell - Scott

Keith - Seabrook
Campbell - Hjalmarrson
Leddy - __________

Crawford - Salak

Here are the 2009-2010 lines from the first Hawks team in 49 years to win a Stanley Cup:

Ladd - Toews - Kane
Sharp - Hossa - Byfuglien
Versteeg - Bolland - Brouwer
Eager - Kopecky - Burish

Keith - Seabrook
Barker - Campbell
Hjalmarrson - Henry

Huet - Niemi

..... It's not even close.  The team as is right now is not competitive.  The 2-4th lines are terrible in comparison.

It's amazing how hawks fans buy into the bullshit that its ok to miss the playoffs cause its a rebuilding year (or worse, years).... and Im not just referring to the fans on this board, its all of them in Chicago. You are the ******* Stanley cup champions.... missing the playoffs should be unacceptable!!! Flyers fans demand heads roll when the team sucks it up like the hawks this year.... it doesn't matter who the guy used to be... Clarke, Murray, Stevens, etc.... Gone! Hawks fans need to grow some balls and stop defending poor team management.

Please don't lump me in with those who are okay with missing the playoffs.  This team has too much talent to not finish in the top 8 and it's inexcusable if they miss the postseason.  Barring a huge rash of injuries all season, we should not be in this position.

As for the poor management, you're right about that.  Dale Tallon put all our eggs in the 2009-10 basket (thankfully we won it all) and wrecked our cap situation for this season.  Bowman did a remarkable job in getting us into better position for next season.  He cleared over $17M in salary, got plenty of picks and young talent in return, and kept the core together.  In retrospect, maybe we could have let Hammer go, but we can always deal him to make room for another young guy within the next couple seasons.  If Tallon were as good at managing salaries as he was at judging talent, he'd still be here.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
The PK has suffered the most with the losses of Sopel and Ladd.  Sopel was especially suited to the PK...his lack of mobility wasn't as visible as he wasn't required to do more than use his strengths...block shots and take the body.  Ladd was also a demon on the PK and was a prototypical 3rd line guy.

Frolik = disappointment. 4 games, 0 G, 0 A, +/- -1, 4 PIMs. Looking like it will be 5 games.

He hasn't been too bad.  He's created a few nice chances for himself and has been WAY better than what Skille gave us.
