Free Agency is over(for me anyway)!!!
I added three more pieces.
Alonso, 24 SP - He's going to be my ace. Nice splits, good control, 3 pitches over 80 and respectable GB/VEL ratings. I overpaid at 50m for 5 years but 14m came this year in salary/bonus and it's a descending contract. Wish I knew who kept bidding up. Bastard.
Ortiz, 28 C - Not much of a hitter but he's a good pitch caller and plays a nice D. He's just a piece at 350k for one year but I think I needed him.
Seigugnol, 29 CF - Versatile player with 88 range and a 77 glove. Can play everywhere but SS. Nice bat with 70+ splits and a 63 eye. Not sure where he'll play just yet. Also overpaid at 42.7m for 5 years. But 10.8 is this season and it's also a descending contract. He was also bid up near the end.
That closes us down and we have 8.3m on the books.
I think, with the moves I've made, we can finish with 65-70 wins. Not much but it could have been a lot worse. If I can acquire a couple of studs somewhere along the way, we should be able to top .500 and possibly compete for a playoff spot in season 2(assuming my young guys develop).

OK, I lied. Not intentionally but I did. I rec'd a trade offer an hour ago. It was Owen-CF, an older, less talented version of Seigugnol. Their ratings are almost identical except for the L/R splits(Owen's are 38/50).
He didn't play into my future plans but would have gotten some time at all three OF spots. Anyway, I got a legit big league arm, a future(if not current) big league arm and a decent, young C.
So I went out and signed another FA who will play the COF/CIF positions. He's 29 and was with Vegas last season. He wanted 6.8m, I balked, he walked. Got him back for one season at 2.8m. A fine value at that price.

Vegas is 2-0 in ST. Woo-hoo!!

I went thru earlier today and removed 12 players from the 40 man roster. All but one had more than one option year. Seems that the previous owner had open try-outs last year and brought up about half the minor leagues. Most will never amount to anything more than AA players so I'll let them go and get minor league salaries to play in the minors next season.

Checking my arb/FA reports for next season, I have 9 arb-el. Two will be kept, the other 7 will be sent away.
I have two MLB positions FA and 14 minor league position FA. Both MLB guys will probably be let go. I'll put a few of the minor leaguers(3 catchers most likely) on the 40 man.
I have two MLB and 9 minor league pitchers eligible for FA. Due to lack of talent, I can't see me keeping any of them. This is assuming that I can get some real minor league talent in the draft.

How did a 24 year old make it to FA?

I've determined that Clint Robinson was my "mistake" signing. I always have one when I take a team and he's it. 5y/29.6m. His ratings:
EventSeasonHeightWeightOVRAGLASAAPCDUHESPPATPMK
Current-6-5196619052895535785380183461
Projected-6-5179749894959343855580183468
As you can see, he projects to a gold glove fielder(only 24). I thought, because the team isn't very good, that I could tolerate his inconsistent fielding while he regains his glove/accuracy. I can't. So I've been trying him in the OF in ST. He's not doing very good out there either. I've got to get him AB in hopes that he develops but I'm not sure I'm prepared to see an "E" next to his name every game.

that is why they have AAA - eat the salary this year and send him down. Sign a cheap "minors" SS after spring training ends and their asking drops to 54K

We're not going to win this season in the bigs. I don't think he's going to improve any differently in AAA than he will in the bigs as long as he gets P/T.

It may not make any difference to him, though a boatload of Errors at the ML level may hurt him more than at AAA. It will certainly hurt the ML pitchers, esp those with average of low patience and make up, to be getting lit up because of a SS who can not field or throw straight. Their ratings will suffer. Defense counts.
