Joe Young, 6'10" 234 lbs. PF, 2.8 GPA...redshirted my first year at Kutztown, played for me second year (although not a starter then), graduates from the school, which is one of the top four or five programs in DII, as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder, third in blocks, fourth in FT%, fourth in minutes played, sixth in FG%. Conference Player of the Year once, Conference Defensive POY once, first team all-conference twice, second-team all-conference once.

Kenneth Dillon, 6'9" 215 lbs. C, 2.8 GPA. Lousy defense but great everywhere else. Kutztown was a very good offensive team this year but mediocre defensively, which was basically my fault. Still, with these guys, I think the trade-off was worth it.

I'll document Danny Hartman next year, when he graduates. I suppose I'll do it in this space, so, uh... <reserved>
[edit, 8/2/2007]: his season isn't over yet...Kutztown will be making it to the NT and they're playing in the CT Finals tonight, but Hartman is already the school's #1 all-time scorer. If he scores a bit more, he'll be making the top 25 of DII careers in Allen. Right now he's 52 points behind #25. A decent run in the NT would probably do it.

another 4 points and he would've jumped two guys to get 21st place on the all time DII list for points scored.

Hartman did not win POY for the conference, which seems crazy to me, considering the guy who did had fairly pedestrian stats...but I guess other than scoring, Hartman didn't do that much to help his team. I mean, his assist-to-turnover ratio wasn't outstanding, he didn't rebound much. He truly was just a scorer. Still, considering he averaged like 9 points per game higher than the guy who won POY (and about 9 rebounds lower)...I dunno, close call, anyways.

I know it was a tough season for you, so I wanted to let you know that we're still behind you. Both Dr. Andrew Rodriguez and myself know that you are the right person for this program and you'll turn things around next year. How's the recruiting class looking?

Hall isn't liking the idea of redshirting, but I'm going to try a lot of times before I give up on the idea. Maybe it would've only worked with a player with WE 90 or above.
6/24/2007 11:08 AM
ah, I tried 5 or 6 times. It's getting boring. I might do it some more but no expectations at this point.
6/24/2007 8:31 PM
I won my first game by 48. Tonight I'm playing at home against a team that can't rebound, so I'm optimistic. Also favored by 11.
I couldn't get Hall to take the redshirt. He played 3 minutes in the first game, so that's settled permanently. I must have tried it a dozen times before last night's game went off.

I'll update this later on to show how these teams did this year.

desando3 is sort of like a mentor, kingrob76 holds my dream job, and a lot of the other coaches I know to be very good. I've been a conference-mate of smrzut before.

I chose to play home games against teams that had a stellar home-court advantage, who weren't set to have overwhelming talent. Some of them really won't be at the level of my team, but they play in power conferences so they'll be good (or at least not bad) for my RPI, even if they give me an easy win. My away opponents pretty much topped out at B- or B in HCA, and I thought I'd give have a good chance to win against them.

desando ain't doing so well in any of the three worlds he's in. The reason I got to know him was he was keeping a tracking thread for Maryland in Rupp. I stopped following everything so closely after the update, when he chose to slow down on the thread because it became harder to put together. Maybe the new engine isn't good for the system he'd designed.

I've realized that triangle/zone, with the option of press, is in fact my favorite system. I realized this by noticing that I run it with all four of my teams.
7/2/2007 5:47 PM
won the first three games, though this last one was a bit close. Tonight I'm playing a decent team, but it's at my place. The oddsmakers have me heavily favored (by 11), but I think it'll be a tight game.
7/4/2007 10:48 AM
I lost that game by 10, and won the next game (against a winless team) by 37. The team is looking solid.
