As one of the few regulars who hasn't thrown his hat into the ring of this discussion yet... please do. The D-rating adjustments are good, though I still don't understand why they're capped at 96. Best as I can tell, we're looking at a Bell curve distribution now, which is how it should be.

However, the current salary structure is really good. A new user can actually put together a decent team at an open league cap of $42M - they could get Magic, MJ, and Bird on the same team without having Mike Brown and Larry Smith anchoring the frontcourt.

Those players who are currently at 90-100 who will drop into the 50s and 60s with the new release should see downward adjustments in their salaries . The players sucking wind now at 20-30 who are getting bumped up into the 50s should see an upward adjustment.

A good goal to strive for as you adjust salaries would be an almost identical median salary as well as mean salary between the current release and the new release.

if true this is sad given that in the last 5 years you have been purchased by Fox, developed branding partnerships and extensive links to other sites etc - you seem to be standing still despite all marketing efforts

Great point that I overlooked/forgot about...Monkee for president!

I call BS. As stated theme leagues have just stopped filling like they use to and owners that I trust and believe in here are telling me that OL are takings weeks instead of days to fill.

Trust me, nobody wants to increase participation more than me. Unfortunately Fox has very little stake in NBA at this point as their focus is almost entirely on baseball and football. We've never been able to get anything going with nba.com or league-related sites.

It's not that we're not trying to expand awareness, but it's an uphill battle for NBA. MLB SimLeagues were built up significantly through mlb.com. NHL has had an affiliation with nhl.com and the big sports network in Canada. NFL has gotten some play through FoxSports fantasy football games and NFL content. HD and GD get tons of publicity through FoxSports, partner site scout.com, and various ads. Nothing like this has happened for NBA.

I think another part of the equation is the community here in the NBA forums. Unfortunately it's gotten very negative and a gang mentality has developed where you have to blast something about the game to fit in. Of course part of having forums is allowing everybody to voice their opinions, which is great, but there's a bitterness here that I haven't seen in the other forums. I'm sure I'm partly to blame for that. I'm sure I'm more visible here than any of the other project leads, and my presence seems to bring out the venom. Regardless, if you guys really care about the game, improving the dynamic of this community is the best way.

The fact that you ignore our suggestions or requests is apparently our fault. The reason this forum is the most negative is because the NBA SIM is the worst run SIM on this site, and yes you are mostly to blame for that.

Its funny that you talk about FOX being baseball and football oriented, yet the NFL sim is the lowest grossing sim on this site. The rest of your post isn't worth reading if you're just going to sit and lie to us time and time again.

Oh and by the way, what percentage of the users actively partake in the message boards...less than 10%? Look, you can't have it both ways...you can't say things like "we need more than just message board users approval to make changes, you guys aren't the majority" and then turn it around and make it seem like there aren't enough message board users here because of our "gang mentality". People aren't not playing the game because of what's being said here...if TK's buying that excuse, I feel bad for him.

This release is happening because we ARE listening to your suggestions. We're not going to haphazardly make every requested change. We consider many factors and make a decision that we think is best for the game. I think the NBA game is the most sophisticated game we have. That probably leads to some confusion and disagreement about some of the advanced numbers.

We added defensive ratings because people wanted the game to be more than just drafting the most efficient offensive players. We added position effectiveness because people were tired of every team starting 3 centers. The list goes on. Almost everything we do is initiated by your feedback.

I came here for the NBA but have played every other one of the sim games at least once or twice (even a couple of the dynasty sports) - I would think that any new user to the site whether drawn to MLB or NFL probably considers trying out the other sports

that said I can see seble's point - unfortunately there is a negative environment here so if they do check it out via the forums they are going to get a negative impression

maybe it's his fault, maybe it's mine/ours - probably both - chicken and egg

Maybe a peace treaty is in order.

I continue to enjoy the sim through several rounds of change, but really have no patience for the tone of debate in some of these threads. Respectfully, some of y'all - whom I really enjoy competing with and bantering with in the leagues - are terrible at negotiation and persuasion. I really want to follow the discussion, understand and weigh in, but I generally get turned off by the rhetoric and so tune out. Peace out, y'all.

I agree with the long tall one. And seble, even if you didn't directly answer my one and only question I believe that I did find a reference to it and somewhat of an answer in another's question, and I do understand that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. But I do think it's great that you are working on improving the sim and can't wait to try out the new changes, looks like an improvement to me.

bfizzle, what was your question?
8/27/2008 2:03 PM
seble and monkee making a peace treaty? That's about like Palestine and Israel making peace.
8/27/2008 2:12 PM
It's happened before, but unfortunately it didn't last.
