Is it just me or are all the awesome teammates first basemen?

One per pick day is perfect for a 16-person draft... It's amazing how much faster a draft goes when people know that they'll be skipped if they don't pick in a timely fashion.

And for those that aren't around at certain times, there are a number of people who are around who will be more than happy to take a proxy.

I noticed that too. Meanwhile shortstop is going to be tough to fill with a star (which is why the Mercker 99 pick was such a great pick). Heck, I'm more than thrilled with 97 Blauser.

The shortstop-teammate situation makes me feel better about nominating Dahlen, even though it put Mathewson and McGinnity on a few rosters.

Dwight Gooden 84
I was hoping that 96 Maddux/Smoltz combo would fall. Oh well, glad to have one of the few dominant Dr. K seasons.

Also, picking gives me an excuse to post this link to the Doc Gooden Dr. K Rap.

One of first criteria for choosing my player was a good SS teammate. I almost went with old man Jamie Moyer so I could choose teammates from the late 90s Seattle clubs.

Well, I'm gonna fall to the back of the salary pack here but I have no starter worth a damn amongst my teammates yet, so...

1998 Greg Maddux

Speaking of good teammates who play 1B...

It's tricky to not get TOO caught up in the teammates, huh? I keep looking for teams with 2 or 3 usable pitchers at a time, but then I remember I can only use 9 total. At least 8 or 10 of the 16 draft picks need to be playable, I would guess.

Same here, elduro25. I had a couple of other choices I liked better than 96 Maddux before I realized I would end up with too many teammates.

This realization led me to the conclusion that I've done enough research on teammates now, and that my future picks might be less agonizing!

Not necessarily...

I plan on using only 5 or 6 of the 16... I will have 8 starting hitters and 6-7 usable pitchers (albeit, all with alot of innings)... That's 14-15 players (= 9 teammates + 5-6 drafted players).

Of course, having over 1000 very good innings with only 3 pitchers helps.

In the battle of most popular selections...

Ruth 7
Maddux 5 (5 consecutive years, pretty amazing)
Dahlen 4
Rixey 4
Hubbell 3
