Phelan Shootout XVII (Season 23) Topic

jade...congratulations on winning our overnight game. I will say that I don't think I've ever seen a game quite like that one.

I don't think I'm going to win a game this Shootout. Hopefully next year I'll be able to win a few.

Gwez. Curry isn't having a bad year, and Smart and his understudy are ripping things up.

Updated scores and standings later today, along with the championship coronation. I have to be honest in that I haven't lloked at anything other than my scores, so I have no idea who won yet.

Congratulations to serb0649 and Rockford on winning Phelan Shootout XVII, their first Phelan Shootout Championship!

The tiebreaker process was as follows:

U.S. Coast Guard beat Curry head-to-head, eliminating Curry from Championship consideration.

With no head-to-head matchup between USCG and Rockford, the next tiebreaker for teams in separate pools is record against common opponents. Rockford won that tiebreaker with a 3-0 record to USCG's 2-1 record. The difference maker in the Shootout was West Connecticut St, which beat USCG in pool play, but lost to Rockford in the crossover portion of the schedule.

Had USCG's loss in pool play come to one of the teams that Rockford did not play in crossover competition, the next tiebreaker (which would have been used for the first time) would have been fewest points allowed in the Shootout.

Exciting stuff once again, and congrats one more time to serb0649.

Grats serb. I controlled my own destiny and lost the last game to West Conn. They broke away in the second half. I could not game plan becuase i was up in Vancouver for the weekend. But Rockford definately deserves it. Great start. Hopefully we see you in the Tourney. (Preferably the final4)

Glad I could at least change the outcome a little bit. I had no idea that USCG was 7-0 before that last game, hopefully you have a great year, and my RPI climbs, because my conference is awful.

andersaa, were you at the Olympics?
3/1/2010 3:28 PM
Yeah I was, I did not go to any games because they were expensive and it was a last minute trip. But went to all the olympic touristy things around the city, and drank witht the canadians at the bars watching curling and other sports I would not care about if I was not there. I am not a huge hockey fan but I love too argue about sports and the canadians are to nice to argue about the gold medal games. They kept sayimg nice things even when being optimistic about team canada. I am used to "I am a cowboy fan and your seahawks suck" type of bar arguments.

Thanks fellas. I'm pretty surprised I came out of it with the win. There were some great teams this season. I fully expect, and hope, to see a bunch of Shootout teams making deep runs in the tournament. Good luck in conference everyone!

Well, glad to see that the talent on that CUrry team can still perform> Worden is the very definition of a 'super sub'
