Whiners Win Again!!! Topic

tec, I'm going to walk my dogs. Fix it before I come back. And it's cold out so it won't be long.

Again, bigal, you're determining terrible and servicable without any basis.

Regardless of the perspective on this issue, we really need a fix for the FI coaches being hired as bench coaches for 20% of what they are being offered as FI coaches. Is the bench coach opportunity really worth that much?

If the rehire phase was changed such that FC's salary demands for returning was similar to what bench coaches, pitching coaches and hitting coaches are demanding (between $2m and $3m), some owners wouldn't be so quick to rehire them at $750k, meaning there would be more of a supply on the open market at general hiring time
+1, emphatically.

One could argue that MLB has no bell curve for fielding coaches.

Nonetheless, now that WifS has let the whiners wield the "fix it so it's how we like it" club again. coach hiring will again be meaningless. The only coach worth bidding for was the FI. Now that everyone should get a good one, why bid?

Overhaul the entire coach/coach hiring engine. New thread time!

I'm just curious. Does anyone know the fielding coach for their favorite team, or if they even have one?

Maybe we should just DUMP the position.

your dogs deserved better than that. better get a thicker wool skirt.

I got gigged with a 50 rated FI this year. He stopped the development on my SS that I thought would be Gold Glove caliber. I had about $2.6M for a FI, but went after the top guys, and got snaked late in the hiring process. All the middling guys had already signed for less money, some to bench coach spots, so I bit the bullet and took the 50 rated guy. It was my own fault, and I don't blame the lack of FI.

The problem starts with guys who would be quality FI signing BC jobs for less money. If anything needs to be changed, it is the "prestige" part of coach hiring. A $1.7M offer for a FI or a AAA bench coach should be worth more than a 600K offer as a ML bench coach.

At least in this thread there's 2 points being made which have been made many times before and would've been better to update...

1. Stop letting FI coaches become a BC for less money.

2. Stop letting FI coaches re-sign for less than they got the previous season.

I'm not even sure how we can argue about what this update does (other than add more FI coaches) without seeing it in action first.

One could argue that the sky is made of pizza if one wanted to. It doesn't make it true. Most things in real life are distributed on something close to a bell curve.

Prove it.
2/10/2010 5:33 PM
Sure. I declare that the sky is made of pizza. Prove it isn't.
2/10/2010 5:35 PM
I'm not concerned with the sky. I want you to prove that MLB fielding instructors are distributed on a bell curve. You made the statement. Prove it.

There also was a 58 rated coach who declined my offer, because he was previously a bench coach. He was actually a 61 rated guy the year before, but went unsigned and dropped to 58. He also went unsigned this year, so his fielding rating will drop again.
