2/18 Update-Edit: Change Reversed Topic

Thank you Z...dalter, please tell me why 6 is a good number? This change would help me for one season. I rarely ever have more than 6 openings. I think this change is good for HD, not just because it will help me for one recruiting session.

I would prefer an answer from seble about the magic # 6.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY THE LIMIT OF SCHOLARSHIP MONEY IS CAPPED AT 6 OPENINGS?????

i am really surprised seble came in and reversed this. i honestly don't see how somebody could exploit this change and compete at a high level. i really don't. maybe somebody here and there gets an extra 15k but to do it consistently, your team is really going to be in bad shape on a regular basis. if thats what somebody wants, then let them do it i say. i don't see anything remotely resembling a dominant strategy in what dalter or anybody else suggested might be done to exploit this change (or lack there of, as the case may be)

No because there isn't an answer.

Dalt - You are always talking about "Giving the coaches the most options" to "Do what they want with their team, how they see fit".

Where did that go?

Ok, here's the deal. I made this change without fulling considering the ramifications, which was a bad idea. There are valid points being made on both sides of the argument. I will leave the cap in there for now until I have time to consider all the angles and what changes might make sense. So don't treat this as a settled situation, just postponing any changes until I can figure out the best solution.

Is it that difficult. There are 12 scholarships available for a team. 6 is half of twelve. WIS has decided that they only want to allow coaches to sign a maximum of half of your total scholarships in a single class. That number is 6.

seble - may i make a suggestion, if you are going to make a change like this, why not make a thread first, and get a quick sample of input from coaches? you could spend 5 minutes 24 hours later browsing the responses, and you would immediately be aware of all the major issues from a coaching standpoint. i think it makes a lot more sense than rolling out a change, and then based on what is literally the first objection anybody would raise, roll it back... i am not trying to be a smart ***, but its something i honestly thought CS should have done going back years now. i just don't see why CS would not do it. whats to lose? 5 minutes? seriously, it would earn you a great deal of respect with coaches. it would make us feel like you were "running it by us", and even if you made an unpopular change, at least we would know you knew the issues and felt you had good reasons on your end.

It also would be a lot better for a business standpoint... people like to feel involved in the changes.

The maximum in one class is 6 but there is no limit to the number of players you can sign during a recruiting session. Why not limit the number of players you can bring in to 6. If you arent going to limit the number of openings a team can have, there should be no reason to limit the amount of cash.

Actually that is the reason why they only allow you to have 6 players in a single class.

Nice try tho, you attempted to answer it which is more then anyone else.

Seble - Can we please get an answer to the basic question - Why is money capped at 6 ? Why is the number 6 ?

I think that is fair.

Seble, my main concern is that teams that take walk-ons (specifically multiple walk-ons) should have a legitimate repercussion.

If you wanted to apply this to coaches that take over teams with more than six openings, which was your stated intent, that would be one thing.

Personally, I don't think it's necessary, but I can at least understand it.

Also, as another top coach just sitemailed me, recruiting is already way too driven by # of open scholarships. A change like this would only exacerbate that issue.
